Hair loss

Has anyone experienced hair loss during pregnancy?
With my first I had the standard massive head of locks but with my second I am losing HANDFULS a day. Everything I can find online says that this "doesn't happen" and that I should have more hair not less.
Just wondered if this is one of the little known "joys" that a select few of us go through and if at 15 weeks I can look forward to it stopping or just accept I shall be bald by month 9!
Any help/advice greatly appreciated!

Not during pregnancy but directly afterwards I had significant hair loss. I was diagnosed with a thyroid issue, which can also come up during pregnancy too. A lot of the symptoms are hard to spot because they are typical for pregnant/breastfeeding mothers, hair loss, tiredness etc. Worth mentioning to your doctor.

Get your thyroid checked asap.

Hi op during my pregnancy with my DD I was losing hair more than I was gaining a nice glossy full set of hair I was also suffering a lot more with spots it did however improve after second trimester and my hair was better as was my skin came as a complete shock to me as when I was pregnant with my DS my hair and skin were brilliant throughout my pregnancy if it perhaps doesn't improve have a word with your midwife see what she says Wink

Thanks so much ladies, the spots have been horrendous too (and 15yr old me thought she had it bad back then!!) so hoping it's par for the course and will sort itself out the further along I get.
I had Dengue fever a few weeks before I got pregnant so figuring the docs would have picked up any underlying health concerns when I was in hosp, it's been a bit of a year! Grin
I know in the scheme of things hair loss is a small price to pay for adding another human to the household carnage but at a time when you can feel really wobbly and totally not yourself, it's quite a confidence knocker!
Has anyone found anything to help with it or do I need to just ride it out?
Xx

Hi

I’d go for a blood test - I didn’t get mine back today but they are checking for low iron, ferritin (iron stores), b12 and thyroid

Hi

I had my blood tests and my ferritin is low - Googling it that can cause hair loss. The doc said he wouldn’t bother treating it but I’m going to get some iron sachets tomorrow.
