Hi I'm new here and I've been trying to convince with my partner since January, I think I might be pregnant but I've taken 4 tests and theyve all been negative but my period is 7 days late and I'm normally on time give or take a couple of days, I booked in to the GP for later this week but I'm curious to know what they do for pregnancy tests?

What have you been trying to convince your partner about ?

If you're a week late with your period and the tests are still negative , it isn't likely that you are pregnant. A GP will do a urine test, or if that isn't clear, you can get a blood test.

Pregnancy is unlikely if you're getting negative tests. Hope the doctors can give you some answers 🤞

Honestly the Gps where I live don't do appointments for confirming pregnancy. Over the counter tests are so accurate they don't see the need and consider it a waste of an appointment.

If your tests are showing as negative I would wait until later this week and if you still have no period then test again it might be that you ovulated later than you thought and the levels are not high enough to show yet. I would also suggest trying a different type of test as some are more sensitive than others.

@Birdie6 I think she meant conceive ...

They don't really do much. Some drs will just tell you to try testing again a week. If you get a nice Dr they may do a urine dipstick test, which is unlikely to be any different to any of the tests you've already taken. If you've got a particularly nice Dr they may do a blood test.

A period being late with negative tests isn't considered a medical concern so most drs won't do anything. Even the most regular women can randomly miss a period or be late for a period. Or you are pregnant and it's taking a little while to show up on tests, it's uncommon but it does happen.

LolaSmiles · 01/07/2019 21:05

They're unlikely to do anything other than the same sort of test you'd do at home. Unfortunately multiple negative tests probably mean you're not pregnant. Periods can be a week late, especially if your mind is on something. If you're still seeing nothing at 10/12 days late then test again.

Rememberallball · 01/07/2019 23:55

To be honest, few Drs will do anything when your period is only a week late and you’re having negative tests, their tests are no different to what you buy yourself.

In many cases they won’t investigate till you’ve missed at least 2 consecutive periods and then it would be blood tests to check general hormone levels at around day 2-4 of your cycle and another test around 7 days before a period is due to check progesterone levels.

I would wait a bit longer and try another test using first morning urine and a pink dye test such as FRER. As pp’s have said, it’s possible you either ovulated late or not at all this cycle both of which would delay your period or even lead to it being skipped completely.

cdlaivfifd · 01/07/2019 23:59

That would be considered a waste of an appointment here. The doctor can't give you a positive test when you are getting multiple negatives at home and they won't be remotely interested In a week later period.

Sorry.

Periods do go all over the place even if they have never done it before & if u are trying for a baby wanting to be pregnant may put your period late, this happend to me.
Id test again in a week but if your period is a week late it should show in a test,my periods are all over the place but when im pregnant it does show in a test fast.x
