Obsessed with disinfectant smells in third trimester?

I am obsessed with the smell of basic pine disinfectant...have been for a few weeks. I'm at 38 weeks now. Also love other mildly random non-foody smells (like slightly musty bath flannel) ...weird!! Extra weird that I had the same thing with my first pregnancy (DC is fine) ...anyone else??

I'm the same, I'm also a sucker for raw bleach!!! In my previous pregnancy I used to sit and suck bath water through a sponge

Thanks! A Google search told me I wasn't alone but I couldn't find anything more current than a few years ago...can't say I've resorted to sucking a bath sponge...yet! What's it about? The cleaning product makes a bit of sense I suppose but the damp /musty thing??

I had a craving with for bleach too. Midwife said it was a symptom of pica. It was nothing to worry about but perhaps worth mentioning it to your midwife.

It's something to do with vitamin and mineral balance if I remember correctly. As long as you're not eating coal or licking and sniffing black mould I believe its harmless

I can sympathise, especially with the flannel thing. I'm 34 weeks in my second pregnancy and my craving to chew on soapy bath sponges has returned with a vengeance. And it has to be legitimate used bath water. Filling a sink with shower gel and water and putting the sponge in just doesn't cut it.

Ds (3) is actually horrified and I keep reassuring him that as soon as the baby comes I will stop. DH is unfazed, he's seen it all before

I was obsessed with the smell of rubber when I was pregnant. I worked next door to a tyre shop and I desperately wanted to go in and ask if I could lick one every time I walked past on my lunch break 😂

😂 It's so strange! I'm seeing midwife tomorrow so will mention..I have read a little about pica, never heard of it before. I also really enjoy the rubber tyre thing! And tarmac and creosote. Nobody seems to creosote anymore. And in these times of austerity there's no new tarmac being laid around my way either, dammit.

Also a lover of all things clean smelling over here- genuinely went into a supermarket toilet and wanted to stay in there because of the bleach smell 🤦🏼‍♀️ Doesn’t help I have asthma so I have to steer clear of all those types of things- makes for a very unhealthy obsession!!! Glad to know it isn’t just me. It’s not just bleach/disinfectant type stuff tho- I can stand in the shower and lather up for hours with soap- something about the bubbles and foam is just SO addictive to

This thread has me out of bed to go and scrub the kitchen floor on my knees and bleach everything. Hopefully it sends me into labour

I've been craving the smell of rubber since like 25 weeks I'm now 32, I have to sniff a bike inner tube that I've bought but the last week it's resulted to me now chewing on it lol so weird!!

I also just love fantasising about soap suds and major cleaning. I haven't been able to find a lot on YouTube. I want hour long scrubbing and mopping videos 😁

Mine was harpic toilet cleaner I used to puff the bottle near me so I could smell it and I used to do my toilet four times a day turns out I was low on iron x

So I saw my midwife today and she told me how she had the urge to sniff and chew new bath sponges straight out of the bag. Who knew?? She says poss low iron but at my stage nothing to worry about. Just try to eat varied. The pleasure I get from disinfectant is so good I'm not sure I want to 'get v better'! Anyway thanks all for sharing. And good luck to you all in your pregnancies! 🤗

Lol im obsessed with all things soapy and clean smelling too😁🤣 using way more washing up liquid than i need and giving everything a good foamy scrub. Including the floors!! Spent 15 mins at sink with the bleach in and scrubbing brush to give it a good rub. Its sparkling now but i really want to do it again!

I was also obsessed with soapy stuff in my third trimester! Used to watch videos of soap suds on YouTube and buy specific soaps just to sniff 😂 so glad I'm not the only one!

I’m really not into cleaning and stuff but I’m 36 weeks pregnant and obsessed with washing the babies clothes and using loads of condition then smelling them! And cleaning the kitchen with orange scented mr muscle mmmm!!

I loved the smell of liquid Dettol but for some reason the smell of washing powder would trigger morning sickness!

OP when I was pregnant with my first I had to go into Hardwear shop every day towards the end and smell the rolls of carpet. I also broke a piece of creosoted wood off a fence and would carry it around with me to sniff

Wow I love pine disinfectant too! I have to sniff stardrops pine disinfectant everyday- I crave it, almost want to taste it but I know I can’t! I take it to work with me too haha! Had the same thing when I was pregnant with my first, but it was furniture polish (pine again) I am anaemic and have to take iron tablets! So possibly that xx

Happily I've just finished work so am never too far from a bottle of pine disinfectant anymore!

@chartreuseur are you finished with your piece of creosoted fence? I really really want it.

Saffagette a colleague just creosoted his fence with some old left over creosote and actually handed me a sandwich bag the next day with a piece of fabric covered in creosote in it

What is it about the bleach smell?! I also loved the smell of petrol.

This pregnancy's weird smell cravings haven't made themselves known...yet....
