30 Week Scan - Photo?

Jellybaby13 · 20/06/2019 11:17

Hi,

I'm due a 30 week scan in July due to having the LLETZ procedure in January 2018 and because I have a low-lying placenta. Just wondering, has anyone else had a 30 week scan and been able to request photos? I'm in the UK.

I know photos isn't the top priority when I'm going in to make sure the placenta has moved and everything's ok with being at risk of premature birth but it was just a thought I had that it'd be nice to have more! I can't get enough of the photos and my husband finds it too creepy and expensive to go for a 3D/4D scan.

Thanks

I'm sure you can ask for a photo just as you would with any other pre arranged scan. The worst that can happen is that they say no Smile

I had a growth scan at 33 weeks and they gave me 3 scan pics of his face also in the UK. Just ask x

Littleduckeggblue · 20/06/2019 11:46

I'm nearly 37 weeks pregnant and get growth scans every 2-3 weeks. I still always buy the photo although the bigger the baby gets less if the baby fits on the photo so you might just get his/her head

scratchbass · 20/06/2019 11:50

I had a growth scan at 31 weeks and it was quite clinical so it didn't feel appropriate to ask for a photo.

ReganSomerset · 20/06/2019 11:52

I feel like I was told no at thirty something weeks but it's hard to recall. I might not have asked.

JuniperNarni · 20/06/2019 13:28

Probably depends on where you go. Our hospital says photos up till 28 weeks, I think as they get bigger they are much more difficult to get a picture of but they didn't have an issue giving me one in my last pregnancy at 30 weeks, when I asked, it was the only time that i'd saw her face, she was in such a tight ball that all scans beforehand were impossible to get pictures from.

Just ask nicely, the worst they can say is no.

Lost5stone · 20/06/2019 13:30

I had scans every 2 weeks from 28 weeks and wasn't offered a photo at any of them but I did5nt actually ask, as PP said it felt quite clinical

Lexyness · 20/06/2019 13:35

I have growth scans every 4 weeks and I’m not allowed photos since my 20weeks scan 😞 I have a placenta check (also low placenta) and growth scan on 2nd but don’t hold out much hope of getting a photo then either! I’m also in the uk!

LolaBlue87 · 20/06/2019 13:42

They usually say not to purchase pictures after 26ish weeks because the images aren't very clear - but I'm sure there wouldn't be an issue if you asked. We have 36 week scans where I am in the UK and we were given a photo because the images were so clear. We didn't pay for it, it was just a kind gesture from the sonographer.

Rememberallball · 20/06/2019 18:40

I’ve had 4 scans since 20 weeks and only been allowed pictures from my first one (my initial anomaly scan) and they only gave me 3 pictures for twins. I’m having regular growth and fetal medicine scans and been told that they don’t offer pictures except at dating and anomaly scan dates.

HerSymphonyAndSong · 20/06/2019 18:42

I had later scans and there wasn’t really much to photograph as it was all too big and filled the screen. I could only see what things were because the sonographer explained! I didn’t ask to buy any but there wouldn’t have been a “good” photo anyway

FairyDust92 · 21/06/2019 00:13

The sonographer gave me 2 phots when I went for my 32 week growth scan. Hard to fit all of baby in at this stage though! 😂 x

ohdearymemumof3 · 21/06/2019 01:16

I got a scan of my daughters face at 30 something weeks :) too big to get a body shot.

Sessy19 · 21/06/2019 07:00

Not what you asked, but I’m so with your husband on the 3D and 4d imagery...! I think they are so creepy. My step mum has her granddaughter scan on the mantelpiece and it freaks me out every time! 😂😂😂

qj17 · 21/06/2019 07:11

Iv been having growth scans every 2 weeks and at the 31 week apt they gave me a photo. I didn't ask for it but I was wearing my hospital uniform on this occasion (I'm a nurse) so maybe that's why. You can see much anyway at this stage.

qj17 · 21/06/2019 07:11

Typo - can't see much 🤦🏼‍♀️

Jellybaby13 · 21/06/2019 07:46

Thanks for your responses everyone! Very helpful!! I'm at the stage now where I'm counting down to every midwife/scan appointment hoping it'll make the time go a little faster! 26+6 today! 3 months to go! X

I couldn't see a thing on my growth scan at 32 weeks so I don't know if you'd get a good picture. I also had a 4d scan around 30 weeks (I find them creepy too but it was actually ok when they used the hd setting) and on the 2d bit of that I couldn't really see what was going on either.

sianyb83 · 21/06/2019 13:14

Hey, I had a 31 week son in last pregnancy - I don't think you can ask tbh - as its not really set up like that.
Also, you don't see very much because they're so big! I could make out a hand at one point I think...
You could see something in 4d, but the 2d view is just a lot of shadows!
I'm 25wks and debating whether to pay for 4d scan at 27weeks, I will have scan with consultant at 32 but know I won't see much!

happymummy12345 · 21/06/2019 13:18

I had to have a growth scan at 37 weeks and I got a couple of pictures

Littleduckeggblue · 21/06/2019 13:22

I had a 37 week growth scan yesterday and they gave me a photo

Triskaidekaphilia · 03/07/2019 11:22

So originally I commented that at my 32 week scan I had no idea what was going on as the sonographer barely spoke to me and just got on with it. At my 36 week one last week I had a lovely sonographer who showed me exactly what he was measuring at each stage, then gave me a photo, so I guess it depends!

Jellybaby13 · 03/07/2019 11:49

@Triskaidekaphilia thanks for the update! Smile

Just an update... I asked for a photo and they said they don't do photos after 20 weeks because they can't afford it...but she gave me one anyway! Offered to pay but she said "no don't pay, then they'll know I gave you one" 😂 xx
