Hi All,
First time posting here so nice to meet you all!

Now my issue is that I want to have a baby, I’m 37 (38 in Jan) getting married next June!! So my plan was first to have my 6/7cm fibroid removed from my womb via a myomectomy then start trying when I’m ready after that. But I am now 6 days late and had brown spotting 2 weeks ago for 1 day..

So what I’d like to know is.. has anyone had a baby with a large fibroid also sharing their womb with no complications.. AND..... I know I won’t know until I take a test, but do you think it’s likely I’m pregnant?! Shock Iv been late before, but always previously been able to put my finger on a reason why (steroid injections for my back, tablets which affected my hormones) but now I’m on nothing! I think I’ll do a test if nothings happened by tomorrow! If it weren’t for the fibroid I’d be more happy about it! :)

Many thanks in advance xxx

Can’t answer about the fibroid as mine were small and calcifying and were not penetrating into the uterus.

With regards to whether you may be pregnant, the only way to tell is to do a pregnancy test which, 6 days after your period is due, should be positive unless you ovulated late - this can happen for many reasons and would delay your period.

Good luck

My ivf clinic refused to go ahead with treatment until I removed my tiny polyp fibroids (they were under 1cm each, maybe 3 of them). Their reasoning was that fibroids get bigger in pregnancy due to the hormones, and if they press against the placenta can cause deformities. However it’s not necessarily the size that matters but the position in comparison to the baby. If you are pregnant you will be scanned and monitored and if the fibroid is deemed a serious problem it may be possible to remove it during pregnancy.

As for being pregnant - brown spotting doesn’t necessarily mean anything when you have a fibroid. I used to bleed with mine on some cycles.

I've had a number of procedures to remove fibroids prior to IVF treatments. I was pregnant last year and one of the fibroids grew back in response to the pregnancy hormones. It was competing for blood flow with the foetus and I sadly lost the baby at 11 weeks.

If you have the opportunity I'd definitely recommend having the fibroid removed ahead of ttc if it is projecting into the uterine cavity.

Hi Thanks for the responses. I’m not trying to conceive at all, so it is unlikely but a tiny possibility that it has happened accidentally. If I am late by this long I have always been able to find a logical reason before hence my worry and my plan is to have the myomectomy (which I’m on a waiting list for) first. But was wondering if I did accidentally get pregnant and went through with it if it would be ok, but I think chances are slim :-( So I will just have to man up, take the test and then see a doctor to discuss best option. Thanks for your responses and I’m so sorry for your loss Botanica :( xx

I found out at my 7 week scan that I have a fibroid but it didn’t effect me at all throughout my pregnancy. But then I can’t remember what size it was. They then couldn’t find it at other scans so goodness knows what happened to it.

Currently 37 weeks pregnant. I've got a few fibroids. One in the womb but above the baby. Not causing any issues.

The fibroid grow at a faster rate than the baby to begin with and then by 20 weeks has actually reduced in size and was smaller than it was at at 8, 10 & 12 weeks.

I was under a consultant and who, after 20 week scan referred me back to midwife care as she said the fibroid was no longer an issue (size and location)

Thank you, that is reassuring. My mum also has fibroids and I came out ok (just!) but none as big as 6inch. Doing the test tonight... I don’t know which I want it to be, but fingers crossed either way! Grin

I found I had a large fibroid when I was about 2 -4 weeks pregnant. It grew with pregnancy an pushed I to the womb. I had to tell all the midwives it wasn’t baby’s head they were feeling. I was under a consultant who took lots of scans. I also had other issues (cholestasis) was had lots of monitoring. Baby was monitored for growth as had restrictive blood flow prob due to fibroids

Baby was born at 34weeks due to my liver compliant was suppose to go another 2 weeks he is now a health 5yr old

Pepperama · 20/06/2019 14:31

I had a large fibroid. It caused me a fair bit of pain during pregnancy and may have had to do with high blood pressure during pregnancy, so was monitored quite closely. I had a c section a few weeks early due to restricted space for baby’s growth and fibroid being in the way, but both fine and no lasting problems at all. So if you find you’re pregnant just tell your Gp and get them to refer you to consultant care if necessary.

JuniperNarni · 21/06/2019 11:59

Is it 6cm or 6inch? 6 inch does indeed seem huge.
I didn't have anything before but a 6cm fibroid was picked up on my 18 week scan, the doctor didn't seem concerned at all and i'm already a very high risk pregnancy. They just said they would scan at 36 weeks and see where it was and if it would interfere with where my c section incision needs to be made.

confusedandemployed · 21/06/2019 12:02

I had a fairly big fibroid when pg with DD. I remember we'd had it confirmed that she was head down, and a new midwife at my next appt felt the top of my bump and said "Ooh, there's the head!"
Er no, that's my fibroid Grin
Caused no problems at all.

Hi All, thanks for the new responses! Seems like it wouldn’t be such a big issue. It’s 6/7cm which they keep calling large, but I know there are way bigger out there! They say that it grows during first trimester so I was a bit concerned.. but I took a pregnancy test this morning and it was negative! Also started spotting again so pretty sure I’m not! Silly panic over Grin Thanks again everyone xx
