12.5 weeks pregnant so need to start to use this... which brands do you recommend?

Bio oil worked in my first pregnancy. Ive been using since 5 weeks for this one.

Puglover88 · 18/06/2019 18:22

I’ve been using pure coconut oil twice a day since about ten weeks on my acupuncturist’s advice. Don’t have any stretch marks (yet!) at 26 weeks, although neither my mum or sister has them and I’ve heard it can be genetic so not sure if it’s the oil or my genes!

annabelle1992 · 18/06/2019 18:24

Ohh I'm a bit behind!! Both of those sound like fab options l, yes I have heard it's genetic!

The point of stretchmark cream isn’t to prevent them (that’s genetic so out of your hands) but to reduce the appearance of them when they do appear. For that bio-oil is the best. It worked when I lost weight and it’s worked so far during pregnancy but don’t start using it until you are well in the second trimester (14-16 weeks).

Nothing will prevent stretch marks sadly, if you’re going to get them you will whatever cream you use. But no harm in trying!

I didn’t get a single stretch mark until the day I went into labour, I couldn’t bloody believe it when I got changed to go to hospital and looked down at my belly. V annoying!

I agree that stretch mark creams don't stop stretch marks - if you're going to get them, you're going to get them!

Having said that I used coconut oil religiously throughout my pregnancy (no stretch marks) as my bump needed moisturising plus I found applying it lovely and relaxing.

I applied it to not just my bump - also boobs, bum cheeks, hips.

EscapeTheOrdinary · 18/06/2019 19:23

Nothing will stop them but I am using palmers moisturiser and expert midwife fantastic skin elastic which have left my bump feeling very smooth

I'm using a weleda oil. First pregnancy and almost at week 23, no stretch marks as of yet and it has been highly recommended by a bunch of other pregnant friends so would strongly recommend!

I didn't get any in pregnancy but as soon as LO was born, they all appeared 😵 so obvious placemarking.

Congratulations OP!

Natural, unscented almond oil. Don't waste money on the supposed "miracle" creams.

MandalaYogaTapestry · 20/06/2019 06:30

Palmers cocoa butter formula. The thick lotion in the long bottle. Didn't get any stretch marks in both pregnancies.
