Hi, I'm 20+4 and have been for my anomaly scan today. Had scan and was asked to go for a walk because babies stomach was not full. Went back 30 mins later and stomach was still empty so had to go for another 20 min walk to give it chance to fill back up.

Third attempt and babys stomach was still empty. Sonographer also showed us a cyst next to her kidney and said my amniotic fluid levels were a little high.

I then had to go and see a consultant who reviewed my scans and report which stated 'unable to see normal size stomach despite waiting over an hour' and gave details re the cyst and said I had subjectively increased fluid.

I've been referred for a further scan with specialists which should happen this week, but I've got myself in such a state worrying and thought Google would be a clever idea!!

Has anyone ever had the same issues listed above?

I am so sorry that you are having such a worrying time. I discovered a different anomaly at a scan and this charity were just amazing:

If you need a second opinion and are near London this (private) clinic are excellent too:

Hopefully it is a problem that will resolve but I know it is very hard to live with that uncertainty in the meantime. Try and take extra good care of yourself.

For the 20 week scan baby's tummy has to be full so they show that they've measured the right point to have an accurate abdominal circumference measurement - if they can't do this then they HAVE to refer you - they have criteria they have to meet and if they can't meet any of them for any reason then you have to have another scan - I don't know about the cyst and fluid but having an extra scan doesn't necessarily mean an issue, just that they can't tick a box - try not to worry and don't Google

Thanks, the midwife referred me to that charity, I'm going to call them today. That's also one of the reasons I'm panicking, if they didn't think it was anything to worry about I don't think they would have referred me to them.

I'm shattered today and haven't been able to sleep much, I've got the nkat awful scenarios going around my head.

The findings seem to be pointing to EA/TEF which is normally associated with other defects or can even be a marker for some of the trisomys. I really want answers but I'm petrified of what they will be

Hi there, I think it is very hard not to panic... but remember that many issues are not life threatening, may resolve naturally, or can be resolved when the baby is born. Try and tell yourself that you need to save your energy for when you really know what it is you are dealing with... and if everything is OK you never needed to worry! I am so sorry you are going through this.

I don’t have experience of this anomaly but I remember that horrible feeling waiting for a referral and crazy googling. It’s probably standard procedure to refer you to the charity, theyl help lots of people like you who then turn out to get the all clear. Try to be kind to yourself, that wait is so stressful, and don’t be afraid to phone the clinic you are refered to to chase up the scan date, they won’t mind, I felt better double checking they had my referral as crazy as that sounds!
