2 months late but line not getting darker?!

Hi all, I hope you’re well :)

Please forgive me, I’m new to all of this! I’ll try to provide as much info as possible... sorry for the long post, I’d appreciate any advice!

As of the 12th of June, I have missed 2 AF. The only time I’ve been this late was when I discovered Hypothyroidism 7 years ago, but this is now stable. I also suffered a miscarriage at 8 weeks in August 2015. The last time I was on the pill was 7-8 years ago so this isn’t the issue. I’m 27 and actively TTC. My cycle is 32 days and AF lasts 5 days. First day of last AF was 30th March.

I’ve had a lot of pregnancy symptoms such as nausea, fatigue but trouble sleeping at night, dizziness, cramps in lower left side, strange stretching feeling around belly button, sore breasts, bloating / gassy, headaches, etc...

I’ve taken a few HCG strip tests (OneStep I think they’re called) and they all came back with a very faint line, but definitely visible. I waited until I was roughly 8 weeks to see if it got any darker and took a normal CB and a FR test, still a very faint line on both. I’m approximately 10 weeks today so I thought I’d do a CB digital, but it came back with not pregnant... I’ve read that they’re not incredibly accurate, so I don’t know what to think.

I’m going away on holiday Sunday evening and won’t be back in the country until next Friday so I know I won’t find out before I go. I will definitely book an appointment when I get back. I really am so confused, if I’m not pregnant then why would I be this late? Why would I be getting symptoms? Why would I be getting a faint line? Has anyone else had this happen to them?!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance! I’ll attach the tests I’ve taken minus the digital x

I have to be honest, i can't see any lines. I would get a doctor's blood test though if you are worried and see GP about missed periods.

When ttc, or when we want to have conceived, the mind can play terrible tricks on us.

Aberforthsgoat · 14/06/2019 13:34

Can see very very faint lines on the two left tests but I would expect them to be a lot darker once you’re missed too periods as you should have plenty of building hormone by then
It could be a chemical pregnancy which is why you might have had faint tests and then got a negative, it happened to me before.

Gustavo1 · 14/06/2019 13:34

I’m sorry, I don’t see any lines on the tests. I think the GP is the next stop . Really sorry Flowers

Mnbb · 14/06/2019 13:35

I can see one faint line on the pink test but not the others.

I would go to a drop in sexual health clinic as they will do a test for you there and if it’s not positive they will order bloods.

Sessy19 · 14/06/2019 13:35

Lines should be clearly visible for the test to be considered positive. After two missed periods, you’d have a visible line. So you’re not pregnant.

Instability in your thyroid function is a reasonable answer. Thyroid function can impact hormone release so is possibly messing with your menstrual hormones.

Have a nice holiday and see your dr when you’re back for thyroid bloods.

Waiting1987 · 14/06/2019 13:37

Sorry, I can't see any positive tests. I can see what looks like evap lines on a few.

Good luck and hope you get pregnant soon

Moneybegreen · 14/06/2019 13:48

Those tests don't look conclusively positive.

Could you try a clear blue digital?

Moneybegreen · 14/06/2019 13:50

I mean another clear blue now after 2 months. It should definitely be conclusive by now.

xnicnak · 14/06/2019 14:20

I really wish people would let you down easier rather than just completely rocking out with the “you’re not pregnant.” sentence. You really don’t know how sensitive people are to hearing that. I’ve been ttc since my miscarriage and that’s all I’ve heard.

A simple “I’m sorry I personally don’t see anything” is better than “there’s no lines, you’re not pregnant”. Women can be so unsupportive sometimes.

Thank you to the few who weren’t so blunt.

P.S I’d read that a few people don’t get HGC until later and I thought I might be one. Also my thyroid might be messing with the results. I wanted to hear of similar stories, not the whole “it should be positive now” because that’s not necessarily true in all cases.

I missed periods and wasn’t pregnant, I ended up going doctors and got diagnosed with pcos. It’s worth going and getting blood tests done x

NauseousMum · 14/06/2019 15:25

OP you should see your GP. They can run the gauntlet of tests and hopefully see what's going on. It would be great if you are pregnant but people are just saying what they see on the tests and there's no letting down easy when it looks negative. Not when you so desperatly hope. A lot of us have been there before staring at tests, getting odd pregnancy symptoms, the mind can be cruel sadly. If you see your GP they can help try put your mind at rest.

Ive miscarried myself and then ttc it's so upsetting to get a negative stick or your period. It's even worse because you truly know hoe it is to feel pregnant but tests don't show it. Even years after my miscarriage i had missed periods and negative tests. No clue why. I felt pregnant then too.

Speak to your GP, get all your bloods checked and let them take a look. Even if someone had negative tests and was pregnant (which does happen) you dont know what's going on with you until you see GP.

NauseousMum · 14/06/2019 15:35

If you've been ttc since 2015, then they should definitely do some tests for you and your dp/dh. Has the GP mentioned it? Probably everything is fine but given it's been several years even for reassurance they could look.

Try to enjoy your holiday and if you are worried on drinking then take a FR with first morning wee just before you go. Good luck with everything Flowers

Dec2019mumtobe · 14/06/2019 15:58

Try watering down your urine and testing again ... if the line gets darker it could be because your HCG levels are very high (sometimes this can happen with a multiple pregnancy). It can also happen with molar pregnancies (sadly not viable).

Before anybody decries this, google the Hook Effect - there are legit sources that say it's real.

It is suspected my mum carried twins with my brother and lost one several weeks in, which coincides with the fact she never tested positive on a pregnancy test. The doctor had to do a blood test to confirm.

Obviously there are a million other reasons it could be, so best to see a Gp. But trying to dilute your urine and taking another test is something that's so quick and easy to try now and if might (or not!) provide an answer.

Dec2019mumtobe · 14/06/2019 16:12

Also: when did those lines appear? Within a few minutes or outside of the time limit/window?

TheChineseChicken · 14/06/2019 16:14

OP I can see lines on all 4 tests. I can't explain why they are so faint though so I suggest you see your GP Flowers

xJune88 · 14/06/2019 16:22

I can see faint lines too, go to the doctors or try epu and explain hopefully they'll scan you and see what is happening. Hope you're ok and get the result you want. Loosing a baby is horrific x

Bambamber · 14/06/2019 16:41

I'm sorry, the only lines I can see are colourless and look like either evaporation lines or indent lines.

Of course there is always the possibility that you are pregnant and it's not being picked up on the tests. It is possible and it does happen, but it is very uncommon for that to be the case, especially for so long.
Either way you really need to see a health professional to clarify what is going on.

I'm sorry you feel so unsupported on here. People often don't fluff their words on here and just say how it is.

December2019 · 14/06/2019 23:58

I can see lines on all of them OP
I'm sorry to hear about your MC and I know how hard it is ttc it's heartbreaking I tried for 7 years for my first
My friend didn't get strong positive tests until she was 6 months pregnant, but I really really hope this is it for you op and if your tests don't get darker maybe go to the doctors and arrange a blood test, good luck hun I hope you get the answers you want xx

Katearty · 15/06/2019 00:16

I maybe you should just book a doctors appointment to know for sure.

I had false negatives with my first pregnancy I was sure I was pregnant but tests all negative took two weeks apart. I don't think I got a positive test until I was seven weeks and even that was a very faint line... I tested again a number of times over the week until I got some conclusive results so it does happen.

But on the other hand I've also had faint lines visible on tests and not been pregnant.

Fingers crossed for you.

dolphin0798 · 15/06/2019 04:15

I can see the lines OP but they are very faint so try to get a doctors appointment to get your bloods taken it could just be that your levels are not high enough yet. Good luck Flowers

Alicewond · 15/06/2019 04:32

Op, I’m so sorry for you, but if you wanted to hear lies it’s not the right place to come. What good is telling you you are pregnant? The tests show otherwise when all negative. Can we help you grieve this?

Bimbop5 · 15/06/2019 05:13

I see faint lines on them, too. I really hope you are pregnant. I would definitley see your doctor and have a blood test.

Sessy19 · 15/06/2019 14:39

I really wish people would let you down easier rather than just completely rocking out with the “you’re not pregnant.” sentence. You really don’t know how sensitive people are to hearing that.

Perhaps look elsewhere for advice then

sunsun177 · 17/07/2021 19:00

Hey hun. Going through same thing with thyroid. Check my other post. So, did you end up being pregnant?
