Maternity - jobs

Hi, I am entitled to maternity pay from my work but it is just statutory pay. I have saved what I can to help with bills when I go on mat leave but I've heard that I can actually work self employed and it not affect my maternity pay.

Does anyone know if this is the case? I will be looking into a few things I could do for some extra money to help with bills but just wondered if anyone else does this at all? Thanks x

Only if you have already been working self employed before maternity leave. Otherwise no you would forfeit your maternity pay.

I think you are entitled to do any work you would be normally able to if you weren't on maternity. So if you are permitted in your contract to have a second self employed job then I think you can start doing that whilst on maternity. You can't for example have a 9-5 office job and maternity leave/pay from your current office job (or any other equivalent). You may have to declare the second job but I think that's only for paye and for taxes unless it's in your contract.
I'm sure there was someone a while back who had two jobs but only took maternity leave from one as she hadn't been working in the other long enough.

PS I am not qualified to answer this, but I did vaguely look into it
