There was a thread here last year from a user who took a lot of codeine early in her pregnancy and managed to cut back. She updated the thread recently (probably 3-4 pages back) to say that she had a lovely healthy daughter!

I think the occasional dose of codeine for painkilling effects has more benefits than risks. I took it about 2-3 times in my pregnancy for awful headaches that wouldn‘t shift with paracetamol alone. My mental state improved so much after finally feeling better and being able eat, which I think is healthier for the baby than being in pain for days, not eating or drinking.

I don’t think they recommend codeine for migraines though do they? I had SPD and the doctor said that so many people suffer in pain because they think they can’t take anything. He prescribed me Codydramol.

Ignore me, they do in fact recommend it for migraines.

No I think you're right duchess, codeine is supposed to trigger further migraines or something so it isn't recommended. It's the only thing that works for me though.

I just saw a specialist regarding all of my pain meds. Codeine+paracetamol is ok (it’s not good for your baby - but neither is being in pain).

I stopped my serious drugs and won’t even take anti-depressants.
