Can pregnancy hormones elevate anxiety?

I suffer from anxiety anyway but have noticed the last couple of days I’ve just burst into tears. Feeling a bit overwhelmed with everything! Anyone been through/going through the same? X

Anxiety is different in everyone. Comparison won’t really get you anywhere because people all cope differently - suggest you speak to your GP

Pregnancy can indeed have an impact on your mental health. If you feel like your anxiety is getting worse and it's having an impact on your daily life, please do speak to your midwife or GP.

For me personally I found it worse in the first trimester because the horrific nausea and fatigue were really dragging me down, that combined with worrying about the pregnancy and it had a profound effect on me. Now I'm in my second trimester I'm not feeling quite as bad so it's not impacting my daily life so much, but I still find it very easy to get overwhelmed. I cried 3 separate times at work last night. You're absolutely not alone and please don't be afraid to talk about it and seek help if you need to

I've definitely been more emotional, and more anxious. I think some of it is down to poor quality sleep? For me at least. Are you getting enough rest, food and water? (Sorry if that sounds obvious, but I find physical niggles are affecting my mood more in pregnancy.)

Bambamber- thank you for your message. Sorry to hear you had such a tough first trim. I guess it’s a daunting experience for any first time Mum. I’ve found not being able to do things I normally do difficult, for example I used to take Kalms- they really helped. Can’t take them in pregnancy, also have terrible hayfever and can’t take usual antihistamines. I’m going to keep an eye on myself, but I have no issue asking for help if needed 😊
SundayMorningSun- I’ve been doing pretty well with self care. My diet hasn’t been immaculate but I’ve done my best, I drink loads and loads of water my bladder doesn’t know what’s hit it lol. May I ask how far gone you are? X
Teddybear45- I plan on visiting my GP this week if it gets too much, how are you doing? X
