I’m 21 weeks and still wearing normal clothes (no bump yet) but tummy is definitely starting to inflate! When did you start wearing maternity clothes?

I changed work trousers to maternity legging trousers around 12 weeks as I bloated to the point I couldn't do my trousers up. I can still fit in some of my old tops but they were starting to look a bit stretched so changed some of the tighter ones for maternity around around 20 weeks. if I could get away with wearing my old jeans and clothes I would! I've only got limited maternity wear and will hopefully get away with going up dress sizes for summer but we will see!

Never did. Didn't need to as I lost 2.5 stone with Hyperemesis last pregnancy and this pregnancy in living in leggings and baggy tops or pyjamas.

I also can't afford to splash out on clothes I'm highly unlikely to wear again.

SiL however started about 5 months in, whatever that equates to in weeks.

Megan2018 · 01/06/2019 08:27

Bottoms (jeans etc) about 16 weeks but could still wear other clothes. Moved in to full time maternity at 20 but still wear some non maternity tops at home now at 25+2 (they just look a bit daft).

qj17 · 01/06/2019 08:27

Just a maternity tunic at work cuz I'm a nurse and I had to at 25 weeks. Still in normal clothes.

qj17 · 01/06/2019 08:27

Oh and I'm 33 weeks.

CountFosco · 01/06/2019 08:29

DC1 I was still wearing normal clothes at 20 weeks, DC3 I was in maternity clothes at about 5 weeks.

Myfoolishboatisleaning · 01/06/2019 08:31

About 7 months into my second pregnancy, and that was only because my friend gave me some. I just wore normal clothes.

Pppppppp1234 · 01/06/2019 08:37

It depends what you wear as well, I’m 25weeks with my 2nd and can wear all my pre pregnancy clothes bar my skinny jeans. This is because they are all high waisted, work trousers I can wear as they sit below my small bump etc.
I know people who just stayed in their pre pregnancy jeans but they wore ones that sat below where your bump would be and were fine.
The only pregnancy clothes I’ve bought are skinny jeans... as I like super skinny jeans (H&M) and I got these about a week ago.

Pppppppp1234 · 01/06/2019 08:37

I also find maternity clothes pretty horrid and so different in designs from normal clothes

Longtalljosie · 01/06/2019 08:41

Jeans and work trousers before 12 weeks. Everything else about 16 weeks. Ridiculously there was widespread scorn on MN at the time of my first pregnancy towards first time mums wearing maternity wear too early so I struggled on feeling uncomfortable for a couple of weeks before I gave my head a wobble.

bobble53 · 01/06/2019 08:58

I’m 13 weeks and already in maternity leggings!! Although no bump but Jesus they are comfy 😂😂

Aimily · 01/06/2019 09:05

Ive been living in leggings and baggy tops, then last week my parents took me shopping and mum insisted I got some mat shorts as its getting hotter and I was boiling... So week 33, I have to say she was right, shorts are so much more comfy than leggings 😂

blackcatclocks · 01/06/2019 09:29

My trousers stopped fitting comfortably at 6 weeks 😭 but that was due to bloating. I have maternity jeans that I've worn from fairly early on as I can't stand anything vaguely tight around my stomach when I'm pregnant. I've just had to stop wearing my normal work dresses at 26 weeks and get some proper maternity stuff. I will still squeeze into non maternity tops but they are starting to look stupid 🙈

Kathryn19 · 01/06/2019 09:41

It really depends on your wardrobe and your body. I had to buy new holiday clothes at 15 weeks even though I didn't have a bump at all because my waist had just thickened too much for my high waisted shorts and skirts with no give. Jeans stopped being comfortable by 20 weeks even though i could technically do them up (again high waisted). I bought tops early on but they only became really necessary around 24 weeks.
Some people don't like maternity clothes so size up. I found nice pieces from eg ASOS more flattering on the rest of my body than just sizing up.

fonxey · 01/06/2019 09:53

I wear tight skinny hipster jeans and they were right beforehand so i grew out of them all at 8 weeks. Not by a massive amount but uncomfortable. So i got some skinny hipster maternity jeans from h&m and they're great. Well... i did have to buy some less comfy ones whilst on holiday as nothing fitted and i had a week left.

ZippyBungleandGeorge · 01/06/2019 11:16

Jeans from about twenty weeks, other than that it was summer so just wore normal dresses, full on maternity wear not until about 29/30 weeks

littlemeitslyn · 01/06/2019 11:29

What the hell has it got to do with anyone else ffs 😡

fonxey · 01/06/2019 11:49

@littlemeitslyn ??

Babyjamie123 · 01/06/2019 13:05

It completely depends on how you feel and what you're comfortable in.
I'm currently 37 weeks pregnant I don't wear the maternity legging or jeans I bought at all, actually rather uncomfortable, I still wear the same size 8 leggings from before I was pregnant!! However my dresses in no way fit me anymore and I am wearing maternity dresses.
The majority of my pregnancy I have actually been in my own clothes, soo I wouldn't waste too much money if you don't have to! Like I said I don't wear the maternity leggings or jeans, however am very happy in the maternity dresses I have invested in.

Just wear what's comfortable for you Smile if you uncomfortable and have to buy maternity wear, then do, but if you're completely comfortable in your own clothes, no need to stop wearing them.

Kinsters · 01/06/2019 13:15

I'm only 9 weeks with my first pregnancy but I'm so bloated. I haven't bought any new clothes and probably won't for a while as I've got plenty of dresses that are loose enough for a small bump/belly. I've changed what I wear though - no more high waisted trousers and skirts, they're just uncomfortable.

littlemeitslyn · 01/06/2019 13:39

Fonksey Pp not very polite

happymummy12345 · 01/06/2019 13:41

I never wore them. I was able to wear my own t shirts and tracksuit bottoms that I wear round the house for my whole pregnancy, and my going out clothes until 7 months. Then I just got the next size up.

Angelinthenightx · 01/06/2019 14:53

Ive never worn them i always wear leggings with a dress so even with a bump i still fit in my normal clothes. I like to buy new things once ive had my baby.

daisypond · 01/06/2019 14:56

I never wore any maternity clothes. I wore wrap dresses and skirts a lot or my normal jeans or trousers undone but with a long top that disguised the fact.

Bojangles33 · 01/06/2019 15:11

I was very uncomfortable in normal jeans from about 10/11 weeks! Amazed by how many people here saying they never wore maternity clothes - is there some sort of stigma to this I was missing?! Embrace the maternity leggings - they're ace. Jeans are a bit hit and miss. Some things you can get away with just in a bigger size like loose tops or those stretchy dresses - I got a few of those from Primark and lived in them as maternity wear can be expensive
