Hi everyone

I was diagnosed with Gestational diabetes at 35 weeks (last week) after it was detected baby had large belly and too much fluid at 34 weeks scan. Has anyone else been in a situation where GD has been diagnosed so late. Will be 37 weeks before seeing diabetic consultant. Saw diabetic midwife one week after diagnosis and have been trying to manage by changing diet - so far readings are ok but baby measuring at 8 lb 3 already! I am seeing another consultant as baby also has dilated kidneys and uretas (diagnosed at 20 weeks). Am I likely to have any scans with the diabetic consultant as I’ve been discharged from the other consultant now. Very worried baby is going to be huge if already over 8 lbs with 4 weeks to go. It seems to take weeks to get scan appts at our hospital and so late on I’m worried there won’t be anymore. If anyone can share some insight on what to expect with the consultant that would be great! Thanks

Sorry I can’t be much help, but I’m 34+5 and my baby was measuring at 7.1lbs on Tuesday so I was sent for a GD test yesterday. I didn’t get a call today, which is supposed to be good news, but I can’t help but worry. I just tried calling the hospital to confirm my results but those staff have gone home for the weekend so I can’t confirm til Monday.

Like you I feel a bit in limbo. Even if I don’t have GD I haven’t been given any more scan dates (and I want one as how else will they see whether the baby continues to grow too big?), and the midwife told me I’d have to see a consultant either way but I haven’t been given any details on that yet.

Maybe I’m just being too impatient but everything up til now feels like it has been laid out quite clearly, and suddenly I’m not sure what’s going to happen.

hi @bernifal I had a GTT test on Sunday and didn’t get results until Wednesday afternoon. First appt came through for the following Tuesday. They say no news is good news as they don’t tend to call you if you don't have it. The changes to diet arent actually too bad and there is a great website gestationaldiabetes.co.uk that gives you advice on food if you do have it :-) good luck

Thank you! and good luck to you too. I’ve been quite consoled over the last couple of days by people’s stories of having big babies. It doesn’t sound like size matters as much as I thought it did.

Hi currently 33 weeks and got told I had GD a few weeks back. My baby is currently weighing in at 4lb 12oz. I tried diet control but readings were still high so had to be placed on metformin. You should get offered another scan as my diabetic midwife said they don't usually allow pregnant women with GD to go past 38/39 weeks in my hospital. I have my next scan at 36 weeks and she mentioned about getting maybe another scan in before 38 weeks or poss induction date if needed. Don't know what other hospitals are like though.
And too add i had my test didn't hear anything back until the 2nd day thought I was in the clear because I didn't get the ca back the next day! 😫

I meant call* also if they needed to scan you you wouldn't have to wait 2 weeks I think that's just routine I'm sure they will squeeze you in somewhere 🤞🏼
