I called my gp when we found out at 5 weeks and they have me a referral form for the midwife. she called me and booked me in around 9 weeks. it's different in each area but they usually see you from 8 weeks on I believe

Check the website for the maternity department of the hospital you want to use - you may be able to self refer and avoid having to go through GP.
Mine had an online form and I received an appointment letter within a week.

I was seen just after 8 weeks for my 'booking' appointment where they do your medical history and blood tests.

I dont go to a hospital to see the midwife. In my area the midwife have their own building next to the doctors surgery where you see them. I will ring the doctors tuesday as ill be 5 weeks then. I just didnt no if they would book me in yet as its still early? X

It depends on your area.

For example my area doesn't do self refer, you have to ring the GP surgery but they'll only book you in with their midwife after 8 weeks.

Then they'll refer you to the community midwives who do the booking in appointment and take over your maternity care.

It varies a lot though

Mine was 10 weeks I made my first app for 11 weeks. I put it off we had miscarried a few months before so we waited a little longer. Good luck OP x

They may not contact you straight away. I was abroad until 3 days before my appointment so I was called quickly to send me info on flying etc before my appointment so don't panic if you don't hear back soon

fonxey · 20/04/2019 20:59

I contacted the midwife asap and they booked me in for the day before i went off on holiday when I'll be 7+2. (Currently 5+2)

I know they are busy so best to get a booking in for when you can.

CCourtnell · 21/04/2019 10:32

I went to my doctors and they referred me.

AuntMarch · 21/04/2019 10:39

They booked me in for when I was ten weeks but I was able to book in advance

Cookit · 21/04/2019 13:45

Yeah we don’t go to the hospital either but it’s still self referral via the hospital website and the midwife appointments are then held at the GPs.
Worth a check to see if you can self refer.

Hi, I'm new here. Found out I was pregnant yesterday. So i am 13dpo but 5 weeks since last period started. When I ring the GP to book my first appointment, do i tell them I'm 5 weeks or 2 weeks? Confused with all these date differences but I feel so lucky. TCC#1

MsSquiz · 21/04/2019 15:38

@FaithEloise I'm a day ahead of you, at 4+6
I rang my gp to make an appointment with them the day after I got my first BFP (12th April) and my appointment with them is the 29th April. From that, they'll refer to the the midwives at the hospital for my booking in appointment

@AysLon when I rang the surgery, I just said could I make an appointment as I have had a positive pregnancy test. I'm presuming during the appointment will be when they ask about dates, so I wouldn't worry too much at the moment

AysLon · 21/04/2019 15:41

Thanks @MsSquiz

1990carey · 21/04/2019 17:36

@AysLon they person you talk to might as you if you know the date of your last period, but otherwise just ring and tell them your pregnant and how do you book to see your first midwife appointment.
@FaithEloise I rung them asap and got my first appointment via the midwife who texted me. They usually see you between 7-10 weeks for ur first appointment, I had mine last Tuesday and then ur first scan will be around 12 weeks.

FaithEloise · 22/04/2019 06:44
