Pain under left side of ribs ?2 days after possible conception

Hi everyone!

I am currently in first month of trying to conceive. I am on day 10 of cycle finished my period 5 days ago.

The day after finishing my period I have been having EWCM. Fiancé and I had sex on days 6 (day after period finished), day 8 and day 9.

I am unsure of whether I have ovulated or not, because my ovulation (expensive clear blue one) broke.

I have been having heartburn for the last few days and today and yesterday have been experiencing an unusual pain just under left side of rib cage. It feels like a stitch and seems worse when I am in certain positions.

So I have three questions:

  1. Is it likely that I have already ovulated very soon after my period finished?
  2. Is the heartburn likely to be an early symptom being pregnant?
  3. Is the rib pain an early symptom of pregnancy?

I know it may be wishful thinking. But just wanted to see everyone’s thoughts 😊 xx

Forgot to add... My cycle is usually around 26 days in length and according to period tracking app, I am not due to ovulate for another 2-3 days.

  1. it’s unlikely you’ve even ovulated yet
  2. it’s even more unlikely that you’ve already ovulated and the egg has been fertilised and implanted
  3. it’s even more unlikely that than that you’ve ovulated, the egg has been fertilised, has implanted and it’s already creating pregnant symptoms including heartburn which normally comes in the final trimester
  4. your ribs are no where near where all the ‘action’ would be going on, so can’t see how rib pain could be linked (obviously towards the end of a pregnancy rib pain can be a very real thing)

Sorry to burst your bubble, I know how easy it can be read too much into everything when you’re TTC. Best of luck and I hope it happens for you soon!

@PrimeraVez put it perfectly! The short answer is non of your symptoms are anything to do with pregnancy. If is way too early to tell.

*it

Thank you both for replying Smile I thought as much, but wanted to see if anyone who had fallen pregnant had experienced the same kind of thing. Sounds as though it’s nearly impossible that I’d be pregnant. We’ll keep doing the deed I suppose lol

Also, on the EWCM front... is it normal to be experiencing this the day after finishing period?

Different people ovulate on different days. A friend of mine conceived the day after her period finished (she was very surprised!), and this baby of mine was conceived with a day 11 ovulation (fairly standard for me - over the 15 cycles I tracked, I was mostly ovulating days 10-12, with day 9 being my earliest and day 14 my latest).

If you actually want to know when you are ovulating, you can track your basal body temperature. It’s probably best to google for an explanation, but it basically involves taking your temperature every morning when you wake up, before you move anywhere, with a very accurate thermometer which goes to two decimal places. When you have ovulated, your temperature will be measurably higher than it was before. It won’t help you to predict ovulation (that’s what cm and seeing what happened in previous cycles is for - it’s not an accurate prediction, necessarily, but with cm and waiting until your temperature has risen, you should be able to identify the time when you should dtd every other day or so), but it should tell you when you can stop concentrated baby-making efforts for the month!

Thanks Spargle, that’s good info to know. Like you, I think I may have ovulated on CD11. My clear blue ovulation kit suddenly started working again and I got a static smiley (static smiley means ovulation is likely in the next day or 2) face yesterday morning on CD11.
I seemed to have more EWCM on CD10 though. Do you think it’s more likely that I ovulated on day 10? We didn’t manage to DTD then Confused
Also, as mentioned before, I got a positive test on OPK on day 11 (the morning), we DTD, but come the late afternoon, I didn’t seem to have much (if any) CM?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I have since purchased a sensitive thermometer but not sure how accurate it is Confused
Thanks in advance 😊 x

I'd be dtd as today and the next couple of days if I were you. It's difficult to say exactly when ovulation occurs even with opks (I believe temping is more accurate). Also you can gear up to ovulate and get your LH surge, it can fail and then you can ovulate again later. EWCM is a tricky thing to use as an indicator - as it's your first cycle I'd just take note of when it occurs for you so you can start building up a pattern. I get quite a lot all through my cycle (and in abundance for about 6 days before I ovulate) so I can't trust that alone.

@leclarke91 personally think all the crap about how high cervix is and CM etc are rubbish, I had all the signs of ovulating after I ovulated! X

LetsDoThisAgain · 14/04/2019 15:23

When my period was late last month I thought I might be pregnant because I had heartburn which I've only ever had when previously pregnant. BUT, I wasn't actually pregnant yet then turns out I ovulated super late and got pregnant about 5 days after my period was due.

So I wouldn't pin my hopes on heartburn being a sign you're pregnant. Most people don't get pregnant the first month of ttc.

I used the Flo app to track everything with my period, ovulation, daily moods, and it even has a step counter included.

Thanks for the advice everyone!
I’m sure I’m probably being hopeful and reading into every little sign or symptom. Currently in the 2WW. So fingers crossed it’ll be a BFP! But trying to remind myself that conceiving in the first cycle is probably unlikely

I don’t know if my symptoms were a coincidence but I just got my BFP!!!! Grin can’t quite believe it as this was our first cycle of TTC!

Is it possible to have a false positive? I’m in disbelief lol!

Congrats! And they said you were unlikely to be pregnant!! Goes to show each body is a different world! However I came across your post and decided to sign up to post a comment. It's been 6 days since conception and I have been extremely bloated with pain under my left side of my ribcage, any advice?

Emily07x · 30/10/2020 20:26

Having the same symptoms due in a week and a bit 🤔

ClaireEclair · 24/02/2021 15:22

I looked this up today as I was also having this pain. So glad it turned out positive for you. Fingers crossed for me too!

bunnyrabbit33 · 27/02/2021 22:05

Me too ClaireEclair.. Stitch on my right side under my rib. I'm 6dpo today, how about you?

Chibutterfly · 06/05/2021 15:40
