Hi there!
Me and my partner are TTC, this is the first month we have tried and I am now 5dpo which is far too early to test for pregnancy! I have had all sorts of symptoms too which I know is also far too early as egg probably hasnt implanted yet but I have had very sensetive nipples which is strange for me as I have no feeling in them usually and I have twinges in my ovaries too!
I took an ovulation test to see if anything would happen and it has come up almost positive as the line is very similar in colour and I have read that it can also sometimes detect pregnancy? I have been testing with ovulation strips since donation and the line got lighter then disappeared by 3dpo. Now I am 5dpo and the line on the ovulation Test is quite dark, I will attempt to attach picture, Any advice please??

Use a pregnancy test

spugzbunny · 06/04/2019 14:04

No.

I did and BFN at the minute as far too early, just wondering if anyone else has heard that it could result in a BFP?

It is true that some ovulation tests can pick up the pregnancy hormone as LH and hCG are very similar in structure. However you can’t know if it’s picking up a pregnancy or LH. Only a pregnancy test can tell you for certain. 5dpo is very very early.

No, it doesn't. Just wait and do a test once your period is late.

Bambamber · 06/04/2019 14:13

You wouldn't be producing HCG yet even if an egg had been fertilised so an ovulation test wouldn't be able to detect pregnancy yet.

Ovulation tests detect LH surges, you can have more than 1 LH surge in a cycle, just like and LH surge doesn't guarantee ovulation

PinkSheepGod · 06/04/2019 14:18

Okay thanks guys I'll just wait it out then and test in a week!

Have sex today and tomorrow, just in case you didn't successfully ovulate 5 days ago. Your body may be trying again.

The other problem
With using ovulation strips to detect pregnancy (especially so soon after ovulation ) is that you may have had a rise is LH but not actually gone on to ovulate and could have had a second peak of LH which you are now detecting. You need to wait at least 10 days after ovulation to be trying pregnancy tests - unless you usually have a very short phase from ovulation to period (9 days or less) which, in itself, can cause conception issues.

@PinkSheepGod I found out I was pregnant with a positive OPK at 7DPO (didn't realise I ovulated) but apparently the hormone only starts to develop from 6/7 DPO...

PinkSheepGod · 06/04/2019 17:15

Okay thanks guys I will update later next week if I get my BFP or not...

If you have pcos or just have high LH every opk is positive even if you never ovulate.

Triskaidekaphilia · 07/04/2019 01:14

I had a positive opk the day before my bfp, but I was already a day late as after many disappointments, I tried not to test early or keep pregnancy tests in the house. But people did tell me at the time that many people get a second LH surge before their period, so to be honest I agree that you'll have to wait.

I’ve used an ovulation test to detect pregnancy twice now. Both were the day before my period was due. I only did it as I felt odd and didn’t have a pregnancy test in - just wondered what it would read - expecting negative. Came up positive both times. Followed them up the day my period was due with a clear blue digital pregnancy test and got a positive.

PinkSheepGod · 07/04/2019 10:24

Oh exciting! I'm not due on my period until the 16th so I am only 6dpo now and feels like time is going so slow, I've also had non stap twinges in my ovaries but no implantation bleeding as of yet!
