Bowels on outside at 10+2

Had an early reassurance scan today in a private clinic and the sonographer noticed that the baby’s bowels were outside in the cord (I think she said in the cord). She did say it was common for them to go out and back in but at this point she wouldn’t expect them to be still out. She contacted a consultant that the clinic uses to see whether they would need to bring my next scan forward but the consultant said leave it and give a report for the hospital to see at my scan which is in 3 weeks.

Just wondering if anyone has any experience of this and did the bowels go back in quickly?

Thanks

Please call your midwife/local hospital Early pregnancy unit. Ive been a sonographer for over 10 years an have never seen this so it is not that common.
Most nhs hospitals can't take private scans into consideration.

@BloominSloe I’ve text my midwife the sonographer said it’s normal in early pregnancy but it just worries me that she’d have expected them to have gone in by now. I’m hoping they will by the next scan!

The intestines develop inside the umbilical cord in all pregnancies and then move into the abdomen - so what the sonographer saw may be completely normal.

This person went through the exact same thing and sounds like they also said it was very common: www.netmums.com/coffeehouse/becoming-mum-ttc-64/early-pregnancy-signs-symptoms-537/425899-10-week-scan-bowel-outside-body.html

If you're concerned, speak to your GP. Hope everything goes well, OP :)

Yes, please don't panic. My DS had his bowels outside his tummy at almost 11 weeks, at the next scan at 14 weeks everything was where it should be.
He's now a perfectly healthy almost seven year old.
I was worried unnessecarily too and please dont google, you will convince yourself of all sorts when actually its quite a common occurance.
