Third births

Hi All, I'm due in just under 10 weeks with my third and was wondering how other people's 3rd labours we're in comparison to the first two.

Lots of people have told me the third's the tricky one which is a bit unnerving!

Both my previous two were born after 20 hrs ish at 39+6 so I've never known anything different to that!

@MadeInCornwallx3 I know 😂 I try to ignore their stories as much as possible but I seem to be following in my mum and nan's footsteps. It's almost like it's hereditary for us. HG throughout the pregnancies and fast labours. Thankfully it was only my DM that had real problems with her births... I as the first also caused problems as the placenta tore and she almost bled to death... I think my DB (3rd) was so quick something caused problems with her. She doesn't remember.

Update for interest on case anyone finds it useful in the future 😁
Dd1 induction at term plus ten. Pessaries, AROM, drop, epidural 65 hours total but second stage was only 8 hours. Born at term plus fifteen.
Ds1 spontaneous at term plus fourteen. Three hours from waters to baby in my arms. Intense
Ds2 induced at term plus eight as suspected LGA, AROM, labour established after 7 hours then less than 45 minutes second stage. No need for augmentation. Was very very INTENSE and he was a shoulders too but quickly resolved with McRoberts.

Good luck to anyone on no. 3!

My first two were precipitous labours, start to finish in under two hours. Very quick deliveries, no pain relief and both two pushes and out. My third was an induction due to a sharp decline in her growth at 38 weels. Two pessaries failed, so waters broken and syntocin drip. From the drip going in contractions were immediate, and she arrived 30 minutes later with a push. Very quick, painful and no pain relief as no one was quick enough. Currently 36 weeks with number 4,

Watching this! I was about to post a thread like this so thank you!
Im nealy 38 weeks with #3 and both labours were 1hr 30 mins.
This time I'm so nervous - I only know fast and intense and dont know what to expect at all! I keep being told I'll be quick because my others were but one midwife said third babies are too unpredictable to tell 😭!
Please keep the stories coming ladies💕!

MadeInCornwallx3 · 07/04/2019 22:55

@Mummab3ar Good luck! Why is it we're told
Thirds are unpredictable?!

It's putting me on edge haha.

Really helpful hearing everyone's experiences so far though so thank you! 😊

My mw friend said in the 'odds' that are trickier so first and third etc. Seconds are slightly 'easier' if you csn use easy to describe birth lol.

Your body is made for this so don't overthink it. I heard someone describe women's bodies in labour as indestructible and it can certainly feel like that after I think 💪💪💪

Fannyfanakerpants · 08/04/2019 03:17

My 3rd was definitely the hardest. Not necessarily because it was difficult, but because it was so different from the 1st 2 which knocked my confidence. So I guess just don't think you know what's going to happen and keep an open mind regarding a birth plan.
However, as a baby, he is a breeze and I'm really enjoying it.

Mummab3ar · 08/04/2019 07:06

@MadeInCornwallx3 I have no idea! Maybe they just like to keep us 3rd timers guessing 😂!

It's putting me on edge too! I was so confident at my previous births (the first because I had mentally prepared myself for a long and horrid experience, and the second because of how number 1 had been) but this time I'm so uncertain of it all 😂😂!

SnowsInWater · 08/04/2019 07:10

First 17 1/2 hours, second 5 1/2 hours, third 45 minutes from first contraction to delivery 😊

iamthefox · 08/04/2019 09:17

DC1 - 20 hours from first uncomfortable contraction.

DC2 - 9 hours

DC3 - less than 2 hours when it finally got going! I’d had days of warm-up contractions in the evening which stopped overnight. At 8 days over the warm-up contractions carried on, but didn’t get going until I had a sweep. Baby born 4 hours later.

Caught me by surprise and I had an unplanned home birth! Recommend you get to hospital as soon as contractions are regular, or have a planned home birth!

Good luck all of you waiting for a 3rd! Smile

Three days overdue with my first three DC. DC3’s Labour was 12 hours from first real contraction to the end which was half the time of DC1’s labour but double DC2’s. It was the most straightforward delivery of the three and I discharged myself 12 hours after she was born.
