Hi guys I'm looking some positive feedback if there is any. I didn't find out I was pregnant until 28 weeks-Massive shock. I was on birth control and still getting periods, I'm slightly over weight so no noticeable bump. I'm currently 34 weeks. My anxiety is through the roof as I've been drinking most weekends up until I found out. Usually one bottle of wine every Saturday night. I'm worried sick that my baby is going to have Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. I've explained everything to my consultant and all scans look perfect so far but he can't guarantee anything until baby is here. Has any had/heard of a similar situation with a positive outcome?

Yes my friend was 5 and a half months and hadn't a clue she was pregnant so had had some extremely heavy weekends drinking and baby was fine. Xx

I know a couple of women who didn't know they were pg and drank a lot - more than you.

Previous generations booze was considered healthy for pg women eg guinness full of iron

There is a lot of scaremongering about foetal alcohol spectrum which seems to have the aim of pinning any non standard development behaviour no matter how minor on BAD MUMMY .

FAS on the other hand is diagnosable and not that common and the mother has been drinking like a fish - alcoholic - and even then not all alcoholic mothers have babies with FAS there seems to be a genetic protective thing.

Please don't worry :)

"I know a couple of women who didn't know they were pg and drank a lot - more than you."

Didn't finish.

Their kids are and were fine and in their 20s now :)

Think for fas has to be consistent sustained alcohol abuse not just a bottle a week

Congratulations! Wish this would happen to me!

I'm not advocating drinking but when I had mine they said up to 14 units a week was fine, the generation above me were told to drink Guinness! I can't tell you it's fine as fas is poorly understood and there's no "safe" limit but try not to worry, there's nothing you can do now. Concentration is one of the things that children can struggle with if exposed to alcohol so perhaps to be safe once a toddler work on things that help build that skill.

It will be fine op. Ive known people who knew they were pregnant drink up to a bottle of wine a week!
