I hate the smell of my house

Hi

This may sound odd but I HATE the smell of my house. I think my partner thinks i am mad as he can’t smell anything. I walk in the house (which i now dread), and smell a horrible musty smell. It’s hard to describe but i hate it. Then i walk into the living room and that makes me heave. Even my bedroom has a horrible nasty musty smell. I’ve now bought some Yankee Candle fragrance spheres which i move from room to room just so I can smell something nice (although it is a very strong raspberry smell!)

Is anyone else experiencing this? It’s making me want to move house. I know that’s drastic, maybe it’s the hormones Grin

I had this at the beginning of pregnancy when i had the sickness.. so many smells made me vomit, including the smell of my house.. i would be out somewhere feeling nauseas but ok, soon as i walked back in my front door id be throwing up! This happened on quite a few occasions..

It’s made me feel so much better reading this! I’m glad I’m not alone. I’d say I feel like everything, house, car, dog, partner, myself is skanky and musty and makes me feel sick. The kitchen is a no go area as I feel like I’m going to vomit as soon as I go in there. I had to quickly open the fridge the other day and I was sick!
The car also makes me heave. I’m 9 week pregnant and I’m really hoping this stops at 12 weeks 🤞🤞🤞

Pregnancy no.2 and YES!! I HATE the smell of my house. Its bloody awful. Now I'm 11 weeks and I'm feeling slightly less nauseous so I can clean now. I previously had to just stay still to avoid feeling sick.

Polish everywhere. Lovely EcoFresh kitchen cleaner. Fresh and lovely. Open up the windows a bit. I've also got a few tea light candles going that smell of christmas trees apparently . Bliss.

Oh and last night I made the mistake of cooking sausages on the grill which got a tad smokey. Filled the whole house. Felt sick all night because of it 🤢🤢🤢

Hahaha I have been experiencing the same thing! Even the thought of going home was triggering my morning sickness. The smell in the bathroom like old water in the walls (or something) was making me heave when brushing my teeth. I'm convinced a bad odour comes up from my downstairs neighbours house also! Luckily now I'm in my 2nd trimester it hasn't been bothering me so much. And the smell in my partner's house was giving me the bike also.

Boke not bike!

I'm so glad i'm not the only one, I am driving my husband mad. The hallway stinks of moist, I'm convinced I can smell the neighbours in the front bedroom, the sitting room smells funny and it doesn't matter what diffuser, candle or airfreshner it does not help. I think my throws and cushions smell rotten even if I've just washed them and I sit and cry they make me feel this sick. I'm 8 weeks pregnant and so hope this stops at 12 weeks. Bork!

Me too! I haven't had much food-related nausea but I am so suspicious the house smells bad (I started smelling the sofa a couple of days ago too) and opening the fridge is completely unbearable. I bought a bunch of reed diffusers but they smell revolting to me too. It's just so annoying because there's no relief!

Mrsmorton17 · 27/06/2020 21:50

I've been going around smelling the walls, smelling cushions, smelling inside the washing machine. Honestly I'm driving myself mad haha! Wish there was some relief! X

Nelbert19 · 27/06/2020 22:18

Yup I had this too - I think it’s part of the early nesting instinct to make you clean everything ready for the baby. My house smelt really musty to me through the first trimester and up to about 20 weeks before it went back to normal. my house has never been so sparkling clean!

I also hated the smell of myself, despite husband and family reassuring me I do not smell. I was showering at least twice a day and changing 3 times. Laundry was insane!

Mrsmorton17 · 27/06/2020 22:53

Sorry if this is a silly question. But the smells I'm smelling (we're all smelling) are they really there or are they totally in our head? Am I making sense? Don't get me started on the baby brain haha x

I had a similar thing where overnight the smell of the fabric softener I had been using for years made me want to throw up. I had to re wash all clothes and towels etc with a diff brand. Even now if I find an item of mine or bf’s clothing that hasn’t been rewashed it makes me feel a bit nauseous. Very annoying!

Alychloe · 27/06/2020 23:44

This happened to me, I couldn’t stand the smell of any other room except my bedroom! It wasn’t a bad smell, I just didn’t like it! It was very hard explaining it to my husband. I had to bin all our reed diffusers and leave windows open constantly! Now I’m 24 weeks and it went about 5 weeks ago and I can finally go in other rooms of my house! But I’m scarred from the smell of certain diffusers from Next that I used to love haha!
