Hi guys,

8 months pregnant, my partner of 4 years works part time has been promised full time work next month. He did promise he’d do this by 6 months. Anyway at least it’s happening my argument is I am 8 months pregnant, saving like mad as he cannot support us on maternity leave. He constantly borrows money off me £100 here and there every month. He has not bought one thing for our baby so far and spends all his money in 2 weeks then wants to live off me. He spends his money mainly on fast food & just rubbish. I am so angry 😡 am I unreasonable? Has anyone been in my position to give me any tips? I don’t want to leave him but I am at my wits end now
Thanks in advance

Either accept it or leave him. This is who he is. He won’t change. I suspect he was like this before you chose to have a child with him too.

LovingLola · 19/03/2019 19:35

Don’t give him another penny.
You’re on your own with this.
What’s your housing set-up?

Moominfan · 19/03/2019 19:39

Yea I'd be amazed if he changes. Can you support yourself? What's your housing situation?

Bluntness100 · 19/03/2019 19:39

Well, stop giving him money. Why would you do that?

CountFosco · 19/03/2019 19:42

If you leave him you won't need to give him money and you'll maybe be able to get some child support from him. It's a no brainer surely?

Starlight456 · 19/03/2019 19:45

Financially kick him out if you live together then he will have to give you some money . Win win

TokenGinger · 19/03/2019 21:06

If this was a woman working part time and running out of money, we'd be asking why finances aren't joint so that one person isn't struggling every month.

Is it not possible for you to manage all finances, and give both of you a allowance each week?

Cherim90 · 19/03/2019 21:37

You're not being unfair but you're also allowing it, don't give him extra money, if he has enough for bills he should learn to prioritise and not spend money on crap with a baby on the way surely? Hopefully with full time hours he will be better tho :)

burritofan · 19/03/2019 21:42

What is the borrowed money for – personal spending? Who is paying the rent and bills? If he's still doing this at 8 months he's not going to miraculously change when the baby's here, so what happens then?

Whatsnewpussyhat · 19/03/2019 21:43

Been with him for 4 years so knew he was shite with money before getting pregnant?
Did you really think he would change?

Stop giving the fucker money. If he pisses his up the wall that's his problem but stop giving him a safety net. He's taking the piss.

Tobebythesea · 19/03/2019 22:52

Don’t give him another penny for starters. He has to learn to live within his means. A few couples I know where one is shit with money, the other has agreed to be in total control over it and give out ‘spending money’ once bills etc are paid. It’s an idea.

With baby items maybe you need to be specific? Please buy x. He might just not be that interested in shopping or if you have asked him repeatedly for x and he still hasn’t, he’s a dick.
