LOVABUMP · 10/07/2007 14:14

I HAVE JUST BEEN FOR MY 22 WEEK CHECK UP WITH MIDWIFE AND AM APPARENTLY MEASURING 4CM BIGGER THAN I SHOULD BE. WHERE I LIVE YOU ONLY GET ROUTINE 14 WEEK SCAN AND NO 20 WEEK ONE. I DID HAVE A CYST ON MY RIGHT OVARY AT 14 WEEKS BUT AS IT WAS UNDER 3CM WAS TOLD THEY WOULDN'T WORRY ABOUT IT, MIDWIFE I SAW TODAY, FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS PG, WAS ONE I SAW THROUGHOUT PG WITH MY DS AND SHE IS VERY GOOD, I TRUST HER COMPLETELY. I AM STILL BEING QUITE SICK SO A BIT CONFUSED BY ALL THIS. NO SUGAR IN URINE SO DON'T THINK DIABETES COMES INTO IT, AM I JUST HAVING A BIG BABY? I'M THINKING OUCH!!! HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS? WEE BIT WORRIED IT COULD HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH CYST. ALSO DIDN'T HAVE BLOODS DONE FOR DOWNS ETC, COULD THERE BE A PROB THERE? FEEL GUILTY MOANING AS LOADS OF PEOPLE HAVE MUCH BIGGER PROBS THAN ME.

Thank god all is okay. I was having kittens here. My firs stopped all movements and had to be delivered early by emergency section and it was discovered I had polyh. Keep an eye on the movements.

greedygreedyguzzler · 12/07/2007 12:51

lovabump - i have been bleeding most of the way through on and off and i have been told that is due to cervical erosion too. try not to worry too much...hard though isn't it?

greedygreedyguzzler · 13/07/2007 22:11

lovabump - hope the bleeding has stopped now.

just thought i would let you know that 2 wks ago i was told i was measuring 4 wks ahead and i had to go back today to get checked and apparently i am now spot on for my dates!!!

madeindevon2 · 15/07/2007 14:19

i was told that i was having a bigger than average baby. had 3 growth scans. baby was in teh 97% percentile or over in all of them. i was overdue in the end and looked massive!!
Baby was 9lb3 so they were right.
Not stupidly large but bigger than average. I think the last estimate i was given was 9 and a half lb so they were only a few oz out

madeindevon2 · 15/07/2007 14:21

when they just measure your fundal height that is a REALLY rough estimate.
If you are having measurements done by sonographer they tend to be more acurate but are by no means exact. You baby might be long and thin for example and not weight as much as they would estimate for a baby of that length.

zebedee1 · 15/07/2007 21:39

I was measuring 3cm bigger than my dates and my 34 week scan estimated that the baby was already over 6lb which filled me with dread! DS was born 2 months ago at 9lb 7oz after a very straightforward birth, he's a very long slim baby. I seem to have had a much easier time than my antenatal class friends who had smaller babies so don't worry, a big baby doesn't necessarily mean a difficult birth! He sleeps brilliantly aswell - I think muppetgirl might be right about bigger tummies and sleeping, by 6 weeks he was sleeping 7 hours at a time at night - bliss!!

LOVABUMP · 16/07/2007 15:35

Now hoping for a big babe if they do the sleeping thing!! To add to this awful pregnancy I have been diagnosed as celiac!! Have to admit tho do I not feel a hundred times better since diagnosis! Things are going to be grand now though, and I'm counting my blessings, a lot worse off people than me.

yep, I'd second the bigger tummy thing. My first slept through from 5 weeks old!!!!!!!!!!

Please let this one be the same..... I don't cope with lack of sleep

Pannacotta · 16/07/2007 22:29

Well I was told my baby was going to be small as I measured small for my dates and he was just under 9lb!
It was a pretty easy birth BTW and no tearing so please dont worry about big baby = difficult birth...

MKG · 16/07/2007 23:29

The day before ds1 was born I had an ultrasound and they told me he was going to about 7.5 lbs. well he was born at 6 lbs 1 oz so they were a little off.

At 34 weeks I was told my ds2 was measuring 6.8 lbs. I was told he would end up around 10 lbs well, he was born at 39+4 and was 7 lbs 10 oz.

Needless to say, I don't trust scans.

katelyle · 16/07/2007 23:48

And even if the baby is big, it doesn't mean that labour is going to be longer or worse than with an average sized baby. I had a 9lb9 after a very bearable 10 hours and 10 minutes of pushing, and a 10lb6 after a total start to finish labout of 3.5 hours and after making the hospital with 27 minutes to spare. My SIL had a horrendous time - 36 hours and every intervention known to man and the baby was 7lbs exactly. The only predictable thing about pregnancy birth and babies is that they are all unpredictable!

pucca · 16/07/2007 23:50

I measured 4 weeks bigger from around 20 weeks-ish.

I had a growth scan at 32 weeks iirc, and they estimated him to be about 7.6lbs then, he was born at 38 weeks weighing in at 9lb 6oz, so they were right for me!

I also had extra fluid, i was HUGE!!!

Ettenna · 17/07/2007 09:52

I measured absolutely average all the way through my pregnancy and lo was over ten pounds! I only pushed for 45 minutes and it was fine. Don't worry yourself.

emj23 · 17/07/2007 10:50

I've been told that my baby is measuring bigger than she should be, but I was nearly 28+6 weeks at my appointment and she measured 30, so I'm trying not to panic about it too much.
