Musgrove Park Hospital, Somerset... Any Experiences?

I found an old thread about this particular hospital dating back to 2008... I know things change so wondered if anyone had any recent experiences of birth here?

It's my nearest hospital, I am about 20 minutes drive away, as much as I would love a home birth it's my first so not sure what to expect.

Would be interested to know peoples thoughts....

I had my son in 2017 in the midwife led birthing unit. Midwife was lovely, all very calm and relaxed. Had my baby in the birthing pool, all the rooms have an en suite, sofa, bed and bathtub. I laboured in the bath tub and when another woman got out the pool I was allowed in. There was only 3 women in that day and the first wanted to get out the pool, I was only in there for half an hour before I gave birth and the third woman who wanted the pool got to go in just after me. There was a doctor to stitch me up straight away, gave birth just before 3 and was home by 8pm. Not been in the hospital bit but the MLU was AMAZING.

I haven't personally has a baby there but a couple of my friends have and my nieces and nephews were born there. Everything I've heard had been very positive.

One other question, does anyone know if there is a private paid maternity facility at Musgrove?

There is also a midwife led unit in Bridgwater, The Mary Stanley I think.

There’s also a midwife led unit at Bridgwater hospital which is where I had my check ups. Very nice. I wasn’t allowed to have my baby there as too old so was at Musgrove. Crash c section saved my baby’s life and aftercare was fantastic on the ward. I was allowed to stay for 3 days which was great.

I had my son there towards the end of 2017. I stayed overnight in the birthing unit as waters broke but then took over 24 hrs to fully dilate...anyway....I was eventually moved to the main labour ward and it was fantastic. Much more modern and felt cleaner than the birthing unit. Large room, en-suite shower and loo, music etc. (Sorry if this sounds more like a hotel review!!) The midwives were lovely and it couldn't have asked for better.

It was my first and only experience and I rate it very highly.

I had my baby at Musgrove - induction and delivery on the labour ward. We were in for a week in total due to various health complications. Absolutely fantastic start to finish.
