Anyone had itchiness with their pregnancy? I put cream on and oil to help relieve it. No rash or redness. It’s making me really irritable 😑

Yes! My legs are red raw!!! No help though, sorry!

Singlenotsingle · 10/03/2019 19:06

Usually it's the stomach where the skin's stretched. You ought to check it out with your GP though. It can be a sign of something a bit more serious

WitsEnding · 10/03/2019 19:07

DD had this and it turned out to be choleostatis (sp?) of pregnancy, which needs prompt attention. She's been warned she's likely to get it again in subsequent pregnancies.
Phone your GP/midwife first thing tomorrow.

spugzbunny · 10/03/2019 19:08

As pp said, please do mention it to your GP or midwife as it is a symptom of a more serious condition in some cases! The odds are that it's totally normal, but worth getting checked!

PotteringAlong · 10/03/2019 19:08

Definitely get this checked out. As others said, it can be a sign of something more serious.

I should have added, DD and DGC both fine and healthy at birth and then onwards.

I did have this at the beginning of my pregnancy up until about 18 weeks - it drove me nuts. Had all the blood tests done which came back clear so just put it down to being one of those things for me.

ppwonar · 10/03/2019 20:11

Similar to above I've had since 6 weeks (now 10). Had bloods come back fine. It is finally starting to ease but coinciding with being prescribed dermacool by the GP for the itch. I still scratch at times and it is very red and angry but the hives have disappeared. Go to GP as at very least they can give you something. I started off trying aquaeous calamine cream which did nothing!

Hi OP just get it checked out I had it recently and was diagnosed with ICP , it’s to do with the bile acid levels in your blood as the pregnancy hormones make them rise . I am on tablets now to bring them down but like the others said it does need to be monitored xx good luck

Thishatisnotmine · 10/03/2019 20:17

If your skin isn't drier or irritated but is just itchy, then definitely contact your mw tomorrow. As pp have said it can be a sign of obstetric cholestasis.

Mayjane5 · 10/03/2019 20:55

Yes please get checked out by the hospital they will do a blood test to check bile/liver levels. Where is the itching? ICP or cholestasis of pregnancy can cause itching anywhere, it can cause increased risk of stillbirth and other complications if not treated. Have a look at nhs or icp care/itchy moms on Facebook x

Hello I had this too and it was more prominent on my hands and feet, it's super important you see the gp right away to check liver bile with a blood test they do. I was lucky that mine was just a bad eczema flare up. It's always good to get these things checked out 😊

RosiePosies · 10/03/2019 23:12

I was being driven mad by mine, I was in tears every night - firstly my midwife ruled out a liver issue, as should yours. Secondly I was prescribed piriton - made my restless leg worse but I think it's worth you talking to your GP and trying (It can help you sleep as well and is safe for baby). But the thing that really helped was the third go, which was iron tablets. I'm still itchy and restless, but no where near as bad as i was. If you're not anaemic though I suggest floradix.

mommysharkdodo · 10/03/2019 23:33

I had this okay around 20 weeks, drove me insane! I'd get all comfy in bed ready to go to sleep have one little itch and not be able to stop for ages!! I had blood tests n everything was fine, lasted 2-3 weeks then just stopped. 32 weeks now and it hasn't returned touch wood!!
