20 week scan today. DH has just said shall we find out? This is our first, I really want to know now but I really want to wait until it's born. I'm so excited I don't know if we should find out. What was your experience?

Back in the day we weren't told!! Dd is 29. Found out with more recent dc and imo it made it more exciting knowing x was arriving instead of? If that makes sense?!

Supercalafradulistic · 01/03/2019 10:46

Aw congratulations exciting times ! I couldn't wait to find out with my DS and I liked it that way as I could organise and get more than the whites and creams for clothes choice ! Can't comment on not finding out but it was every bit as special to find out together at the scan and get excited about it I found ! We also had a gender reveal party where we told everyone else so that was good fun ! Whatever you choose will be special !

There's no right answer. Some will argue it's magical to wait and others will say it helps with bonding and prep to find out and a million other arguments besides. It's what's right for you.

MrsPMT23 · 01/03/2019 10:48

It's a surprise either way! I waited with my DC1 and had written into my birth plan that I wanted my DH to tell me the sex. The moment he told me we had a DD with tears in his eyes was the most magical moment and just added to whole experience. I don't think we'll find out again with DC2.

Itsallwhite · 01/03/2019 10:48

How do you know what's right though? I'm so excited haha we are in the hospital now!

It's personal choice. I didn't find out with my little boy, nor this pregnancy. Neither of us wanted to know and families preferred a surprise as well, so it was never really discussed. We just preferred it this way. Personally, I find it more fun not to know. My brother and SIL found out the sex and have announced the name. It's lovely, don't get me wrong, but I feel like we know most of the 'big' details before baby has even arrived.

And I genuinely don't get the 'being more prepared' thing but then I love newborns in white ❤️

I'd want to know! But my mum couldn't fathom why I'd want to know.

I wonder if your sonographer would write it down for you and you could decide later? X

LeFaye · 01/03/2019 11:08

I wanted to know with both! I was so nerveous ans of edge all through pregnancy so any bit of information helped me.

DH didn’t want to know the second time, so I kept it to myself ☺️

Georgiemcgeorgeface · 01/03/2019 11:16

What did you decide OP do you know??? X

TokenGinger · 01/03/2019 11:19

I have loved knowing. Picking out his name and his outfits. There's only so many neutral clothes you can get. I've really enjoyed being able to pick up bargains for future seasons - eg winter coats in bigger sizes etc and getting stocked up.

TerriB1984 · 01/03/2019 11:40

We didn’t find out with DD and will be having another surprise this time round. As others have said there is no right or wrong answer and it is completely down to personal choice. Nobody actually told me the sex of DD. She was placed on my tummy after birth and it wasn’t until my mum (who was at the birth) asked me that I realised I didn’t know and I looked for myself, lol. I hate really gendered clothing anyway so even if I’d have known beforehand I wouldn’t have suddenly started buying masses of pink or blue so not knowing wasn’t an issue for me with respect to preparing.

Itsallwhite · 01/03/2019 11:59

We found out! Got to the end and I changed my mind and we found!!! And I'm so excited
