Healthy eating ideas ?!

Hi all, I recently had two bleeds, I had a scan yesterday which showed I'm 7 week pregnant and little 🥜 had a heartbeat thank goodness ! However, they've told me I need to rest and eat good food, obviously I will do but it's going to be a struggle.

Normally I go to the gym every two days and do a decent workout, but they've told me not too until my 12 week scan when they can check the bleed has healed itself, that's a whole five weeks and the thought of not going for that time is killing me, I do absolutely love my food, so I need healthy ideas of filling things to eat that aren't going to make me pile on the pounds as id only just gotten back to my pre baby weight when I found out I was pregnant ! Does anyone have any good ideas ?

Thankyou ! X

When I saw my midwife yesterday, she said my GP surgery endorses Slimming World during pregnancy because of the focus on healthy eating and she encouraged me to join if I felt concerned about my weight. Maybe do some research in to Slimming World and follow the principles of that?

@TokenGinger I'll definitely give that a look ! Thankyou, I never even thought about something like slimming world. X

@TokenGinger - sorry to hear about your bleeds but congratulations on your scan. could you consider trying a vegetarian/vegan diet for a bit? Although there are unhealthy vegan options, they're trickier to find. And it'll encourage you to eat plenty of veg etc. Not easy in the first trimester - all I wanted was potato waffles x

@RMarieClaire Thankyou ! I do eat vegan + veggie a lot of the time ! Sometimes have meat if we do a roast dinner or if we are out, or if the boyfriend makes tea, but I'm struggling to find stuff to fill me up and keep me full, so I'm trying to snack on fruits but I'm going through too much of it. I was like this in my last pregnancy, in my first trimester I'm absolutely ravenous and then it calms down 😂 we're currently doing lots of pasta based teas but I'm getting fed up of it and end up snacking later on which is where my extra pounds will come from if I don't stop myself soon X

@emmagrace96 ah, yes, I know what you mean about getting hungry again quickly. In the end, I went for the option of having lots of smaller meals. Pasta isn't the healthiest, could you try introducing more sweet potato, and perhaps things like quinoa?

I'm really craving sour sweets at the moment - eating lots of lemon and apples but it's not the same, ha ha!

@RMarieClaire in my last pregnancy I over did it with the sweet potatoes and I can't stand them anymore 😂 I'm trying to have things like couscous instead of pasta but it's not working. I'm loving mangoes and strawberries but I can't keep up with the amount me and my 18month old go through 😂 X

I do a roast chicken for a Sunday, (not every Sunday mind) and I strip and boil the carcass. Smells rank BUT full of goodness. I strain the stock and get rid of the bones, then I chuck shed loads of veg in (anything you have fresh or frozen!) and the meat from leg/thigh/carcass. Cook and then blitz, this goes into freezer bags and I have this as a “snack” at home and work and so far has helped ward off any coughs and colds!
I also make big batches of bolognese - fry beef mince, onion, garlic, mushrooms, add tins of chopped tomatoes and dried mixed herbs, and then in a blender I put carrot, celery, spinach, peas and sweet corn and mix this purée into the sauce. Once it’s simmered a few hours no one would know all the veg is in there! Can also add lentils for extra protein fibre and bulk. The I figure pasta is ok as there’s so much veg packed into the sauce! Easy to freeze in portions too!
I buy cheap bags of frozen fruit (berries/mango) and put with Greek yoghurt.
Pitta breads filled with cheese/meat & salad, occasionally I treat myself to tuna mayo.
I graze on fruit..I add fruit to porridge, if I have nuts in the house I will also snack on them.
I also eggs quite often and instead of ketchup I stick a couple tomatoes in a cup and microwave for a minute!
I make stir frys, either chicken or turkey and again, loads of veg. Onion, apple, mushroom, pepper, sweetcorn...whatever I have around!
A day at work for me looks like this:
Morning workout (I too avoided workouts for first trimester) 500mls water
Breakfast - porridge with fruit and a rooibois tea or eggs on toast
Snack-orange
Lunch (1pm) -stuffed pitta bread, banana
Snack - (4/5pm) chicken soup, more fruit
Snack - Greek yoghurt and fruit and small handful nuts

Evening meal - usually some variation of meat and veg and a treat after plus antenatal vitamin

By the way when I was in first trimester his was also accompanied by late night cereal or toast as I would wake up hungry Smile

I also make peanut butter cookies - one cup peanut butter (100% peanuts if you can afford it) one egg and one cup sugar. Mix together and make balls and flatten them bake 180 ish til golden round edges. Yum.
Worth bearing in mind though my ravenous hunger calmed down after first trimester (I’m 17 weeks now) and it doesn’t really matter if you eat too many carbs.. as long as you are getting enough fruit veg fat and protein. Also if you struggle with nausea it’s better to eat bread and biscuits if that’s all you can manage, I was lucky not to have nausea but if I did I’d have eaten whatever my body would allow me and at least have energy xxx

@Curlywurlywooo amazing ! I'm definitely going to give all those a go, all the veg sounds amazing, and I'll definitely be added lentils for bulk from now, i didn't think of that before ! Thankyou so much and the peanut butter cookies sound lush, definitely going to give all that a try X
