Pregnancy after Lletz

Hi
I am looking for advice from anyone who has been pregnant after having the lletz treatment.

I had the lletz for CIN3 precancerous cells on my cervix just under a year ago. I've had it checked since and it seems to have healed fine. However, since the procedure I seem to now have light spotting for about 5 days before my period turns up.

I am now pregnant and it's very very early days -just 4 weeks. I have been spotting for the last 3 days or so. It's definitely not my period yet. There's no cramps and its light pink mostly but there have been one or two bits that look more red. But it's not a lot - but enough to be stressing me out!! I've had two previous pregnancies before and have never experienced this sort of bleeding before.

I'm not sure if this is about to turn into an early miscarriage or if this could be something related to my cervix and the treatment I had. I just wondered if anyone else had had a similar experience??

Many Thanks

Xx

I had lletz for CIN2 nine months before I fell pregnant, I did have some spotting in the first trimester, mainly after intercourse and then during my 12 week scan, but all was fine. I'd worried contact a midwife or your doctor's to get checked out. Hope all goes well for you

I had lletz for CIN3 a year before i had my 3rd son i also had spotting all the way throughout my pregnancy with him he's now a happy michevious 1 year old.

I think the treatment makes our cervix just a wee bit more temperamental lol.

Congratulations xxx

Thanks both that's really really helpful. Very comforting to know you've had similar experiences. I'm going to call the GP about it today. Did you need the stitch?! That sounds horrible! X

Congratulations! I had 2 lletz treatments before I was pregnant. Didn't have any spotting but was very closely monitored, consultant led from 16 weeks and lots of extra scans. Didn't need any stitches and baby was 10 days late. Totally understand your worries though, I had similar worries when I was pregnant. Hope all goes well x

I didn't need the stitch, but my cervix was a bit of an arse and started to shorten from 23 weeks, so I had progesterone pessaries until 36 weeks. All was fine though, and DD arrived late in the end despite me being 1-2cm at 37 weeks Hmm Smile

Puggleface · 20/02/2019 22:43

Congratulations on your pregnancy!
I had a LLETZ for CIN3 In December 2014 and was pregnant 2 months later! DS1 arrived at 36 weeks. For my second pregnancy I was put on progesterone pesseries from 16 weeks till 34 weeks and DS2 arrived bang on 40 weeks. I am currently 28 weeks with DD1 and not on progesterone this time.
Best of luck in your pregnancy!

Hello Ladies,
Can I jump on this thread, firstly congratulations @piddlestix :)

I had two of lots of LLETZ a couple of years ago, I am currently nearly 6 weeks pregnant, my consultant advised my IVF clinic that I will need a "Surgical Suture" put in by 9 weeks, I would love to hear from anyone else who has had this done?

piddlestix · 22/05/2019 19:02

Hi @PostiveThinkingRainbow sorry I've somehow only just seen this.
I had a check at 16 weeks and they didn't need to do a stitch. But they diagnosed me with placenta praevia! So now I'm even more stressed. God these pregnancies can be so worrying!
How are you getting on? Did you have the stitch?? X

Hi Piddlestix,

I also had a Lletz for CIN3 precancerous cells a couple of years ago. I'm now 18 weeks pregnant with baby number 4.
All is fine. I have had some very light spotting on 3 occasions earlier in the pregnancy but none in recent weks (and a little heavier spotting after sex!).

I am under consultant led care (not because of the Lletz - because I have chrons disease) and my consultant (who is brilliant) said shes not at all concerned about the Lletz, that I wont need a stitch (she said she probably would advise a stitch if I had had 2 Lletz procedures)

Everything so far is absolutely fine.
Wishing you a healthy and uneventful pregnancy :)

Hi @HarryPottersSecretSister
Thanks that's really great to know. I've continued to have quite a bit of spotting but I'm 18 weeks now too! And baby seems to be doing well. I had my cervix measured with an internal scan but that seemed like it didn't need the stitch which is good news.

On a separate note my husband has Crohn's disease so just wanted to say I know how hard that can be and you sound absolutely amazing for managing the Crohn's and expecting your 4th baby! Huge solidarity strength to you!! We are expecting our third and I'm already starting to worry about how we will all manage - especially when my husband is flaring - but if you can handle 4 then that makes me know we can manage our three!! X
