First midwife appointment - 10 weeks

Hey all!
Hoping for some reassurance or insight. The earliest midwife appointment I could get is when I will be 10 weeks, maybe a couple of days more. I have had some complications already and explained I was anxious to see someone a bit sooner but she basically said stop worrying and this is within normal timescales and it's fine as long as I have had my scan by 14 weeks at the latest... I don't really want to wait that long but will do so as long as there are no risks. Just seen on the NHS website that you have to have certain tests done before 10 weeks and to contact gp urgently if you haven't seen midwife by that point?! Will it be okay, am I worrying about nothing? I will ring them back if I need toShockConfused, any comments welcome! Xx

Completely normal around here to have your booking in at 10 weeks. The blood tests that they say to have before 10 weeks are for sickle cell I believe and they don't even offer that screening in my area so I don't think you need to contact a gp urgently. There's definitely nothing to worry about waiting until 14weeks for your scan, as long as it's between 11-14 weeks, completely normal!

Was it the midwife you were speaking to or your GP receptionist? In my area booking in appointments are made via the GP. They offered me mine at 16 weeks! I pointed out that I was due a scan at 12 weeks and they gave me the number for the midwifery team and they sorted an appointment at about 9 weeks.

I didn't have my booking in until 11 weeks this time. I don't think it needed to be sooner. I was already in the system for scan though so I got that date at my booking appointment for when I was 13 weeks.

It's absolutely normal to wait until then, they'll more than likely do your booking bloods at the scan. I saw my midwife at 9 weeks and had no tests done until my scan which was about 13+5, similar with my last pregnancy too.

I think it depends what area you are in as to how they do things.

My booking was at 6+1, very long 2hr appt and they took bloods and urine. The list of things the blood was tested for was infectious diseases including HIV and a number of STDs, anaemia, blood disorders, blood type etc. I think urine test was for diabetes and general UTIs.

I don't think it would matter too much if this was done later so I wouldn't worry too much. A late scan would bother me though in case there are issues. My scan is 12+1 but I am having private scan and NIPT screening at 10+3
