Took 10.5 months with my first and aiming for the same with my second....felt like the Right amount of time last time so hoping it'll be the same this time round!

myotherbagisgucci · 11/02/2019 16:48

DD1: 3 weeks holiday plus 9 months maternity leave.

DD2: 2 months holiday plus 9 months maternity leave.

harper30 · 11/02/2019 16:52

I'm a secondary teacher and still on maternity leave I'll be going back after 11 months

YouBoggleMyMind · 11/02/2019 16:53

10.5 months maternity leave and 6 weeks holiday tagged on the end so I got full pay.

candlefloozy · 11/02/2019 16:56

Had 13 months off. Loved it.

PerditaMacleod · 11/02/2019 17:01

13 months with DC1, a year of mat leave and 4 weeks holiday. DC2 is due next week and I think I'm taking the year this time, will probably cut my mat leave a bit short and make it up with holiday so I can get paid for the last month or so.

QatEx · 11/02/2019 17:03

Four months but I am abroad. To be fair having seen it from both sides now I think around 5-6 months would be ideal.

Georgiemcgeorgeface · 11/02/2019 17:07

5 months and wish I'd gone back sooner I hated maternity leave.
Suspect that was due to my circumstances at the time though as now if I did it again (not that I ever would) I'd like to tho k I'd have longer and I'd make the most of it.

SimplyPut · 11/02/2019 17:16

9mths with DC1 and 10mths with DC2 - I was a freelance contractor at the time and saved as much as I could in advance.

Senior position with DC3 and after pushing for a new family policy I led by example and took one year. I loved every second of it and now encourage my staff to do the same as mat leave offers 6mths full and 6mths half pay.

MaverickSnoopy · 11/02/2019 17:17

DC1 - 9 months

DC2 - 15 months (was planning to take 12 months mat and 2 months holiday but ended up off sick for a month too)

DC3 - 14 months (12 months mat and 2 months holiday)

Massive caveat - I loved the first job I returned to buy hated the others.

Cheetahssitonfajitas · 11/02/2019 17:18

6 weeks, but I'm self employed. If I had got maternity leave I would not have wanted to take less than 1 year.

Frizzy1986 · 11/02/2019 19:08

I took 12 months + 2 weeks in total. I'd have loved longer.

Cookit · 11/02/2019 19:13

13 months - the year plus holidays accrued.
A year didn’t seem unusual amongst baby groups and things I attended.

sittingonacornflake · 11/02/2019 19:18

Am 12.5 months into 14 months of leave. I'm bloody loving it and wish I could take another year or even longer!!

Hunkyd0ry · 11/02/2019 19:48

I’m a teacher so went back in September as thought it was easier. DD was 8.5 months and seemed quite little.
This time if all works out ok baby will be 10 months (I’ll go back just before the summer) but nearly 12 months when I go back properly.

Mmmmbrekkie · 11/02/2019 19:53

8.5 years

PRoseLegend · 11/02/2019 19:57

Currently have had 16 weeks off (finished up 6 weeks prior to due date as per company policy, and baby is now 8 weeks old). My workplace has 14 weeks paid maternity leave, plus they have paid out the rest of my rec leave, and then I have until October 2021 approved off as unpaid leave.
Whether I go back sooner or not... I'm unsure. I like the flexibility of not working full time, of being able to stay at home with LO and do housework.
Plus my job as a child protection worker is very stressful, so I'm enjoying the break.

Babyno2mamabear · 11/02/2019 20:03

5 months with my first, aiming for a year this time. Statutory Mat Pay reslly doesn't stretch that far though, doesn't even cover the mortgage! So will just have to keep a tight track on things to get the year or so xx

voxnihili · 11/02/2019 20:07

I'm in secondary too (SLT). I have an August born so mat leave started the day baby was born (I wasn't starting it at the end of term and getting maternity pay when I'd be off anyway!). I'll go back for the last week of term and then properly in September. Aside from that week in July, I'll have been off for 13.5 months with only 11 months mat leave Smile.

katsucurry · 11/02/2019 20:11

Take as long as you can afford?

I'm planning on taking 7 weeks holiday and 12 months maternity leave so will be off for 14 months.

Fantababy · 11/02/2019 21:03

13 months. Just under a year mat leave + about 6 weeks holiday. Hoping for the same this time but not sure I'll be able to stretch quite so far.

Rememberallball · 12/02/2019 11:01

I have up work in September because of selling the house we were living in and relocating to another part of the country. Also decided not to job hunt once moved as we had IVF abroad and it was very stressful last time round trying to organise time off with just a week’s notice.

As it turns out the lack of stress and time to relax and rest has made all the different and I’m currently 6+5 following double embryo transfer. Plan now is to be a SAHM for as long as possible though I do have options if I want a couple of part time/flexible roles!!

Ccec · 12/02/2019 12:23

I think how much time you should take off varies, some people like to get back to work and that's fine whereas others take as much as they possibly can.
I'll be taking 6 months maternity leave and as my maternity leave starts at the beginning of the new leave year I will then take some accrued holiday to bring me up to about 7 months off. That'll take me to Oct/Nov time of going back to work and I like to take a few weeks off around school xmas holidays as i have a child already so ill save some holiday for then. (I work part time so 3 days off in a week is technically a week off for me)
If I had a partner and a better paid job I would take the year that I am entitled too, as it is I will be using some savings to get me through my time off and I am jealous of those who can do so :)

outpinked · 12/02/2019 16:51

A year but because I teach it has technically been 13.5 months due to summer holidays.

Ourbabies18 · 12/02/2019 17:18
