Gap next to cot bed mattress

Hi,

I think I’m being a bit paranoid with this one..

I’ve got a second hand cot bed so have bought a new mattress for it, there’s about a 2cm gap at the side of the mattress and the bars. Is the gap small enough for it to be okay?
I can just fit two fingers between them at a squeeze.

Pictures attached

Personally I've just had discussion with my dp about it i would just return matress for a bigger size yes probably not going to matter but it will play on your mind.

I dont know if this is your first baby ? But i was a nervous wreck about every wee thing i think more for your sanity maybe return it lol but no i don't think it would pose a risk to your baby but i still wouldn't chance it lol

Yes this is my first baby - I think that’s why I’m worrying so much because every little thing makes me paranoid at the minute 🙈

The only problem with returning it is it’s 70cm wide, when I measured the cot base it’s 72cm and I can’t find a mattress with that width anywhere!

I don't think you'll find one that's 72cm wide, 70 is the standard width for a cot bed mattress.
It's so so hard with your first not to worry about things but honestly what will happen with a 2cm gap that isn't deep and has open slats next to it with air freely able to flow around it?
Also I got so worried about cots and nurseries and all that jazz and DD slept in my room for the full 6 months they recommend in a next to me crib, she never even saw that cot until she was about 6 months old 😂😂😂

I did think that I was being silly for worrying, especially once the mattress is out the wrapping it’ll only be 1cm at each side because it’ll actually go central.
My baby’s 11 weeks old and I wish he could stay in his Moses basket a bit longer but he’s so big already and his head touches the top of it so it’s definitely time for the cot!
I will be moving the cot so it’s next to my side of the bed though! Don’t want him too far away 🙈

You guys will be totally fine :) we had the cot in our room for a while for the transition too, it's hard to evict them from your room I delayed it for quite a while!
Plus with the sheet and the waterproof thing on the mattress that will take it even closer to the edges 👍
