Time between booking in and 12 week scan?

I had my booking in appointment today at 11+3 and they said the hospital will send me a letter for my scan. I know this probably depends on area but how long does this normally take? I'm a bit worried about whether they'll get it booked in before 14 weeks.

Did u ask the midwife why your booking in appt was at 11 wk? I think it only matters if your having Down syndrome testing to get the scan by 14 wk , my Letter only took a few days to come after the appointment , if the date they give u is too late ring up an explain u need it earlier for down testing x

I rung them around 7 weeks and today was the first appointment they had, I had to go to a centre that was not my nearest one just to get that. So I guess they are busy at the moment and maybe closures over Christmas got in the way. My concern is about doing the NT tests, the midwife I saw today said that if it's a bit late they'll be able to test for downs but not edwards and pataus, but the latter are obviously more concerning! I'm 28 so no reason to think it's a huge chance but I would like all tests availible as I get anxious not knowing things.

That’s so rubbish they’ve done that !! They should get you in for scan earlier rather than say oh we won’t be able to test for Edwards etc. I’d just wait for the letter then ring up hospital or midwifes an complain that you want the testing. X

I was scanned at 12.5 and booking in apt was 11 weeks, the scan letter came 3 days after booking in

Triskaidekaphilia · 11/01/2019 20:21

@sh13 yeah I'm going to wait for the letter then if it seems too late I will ring them and ask what's going on.

Thanks @Lauren83, hopefully mine will be similar and I'm worrying about nothing!

I was panicking thinking they wouldn't fit me in in time, infact sorry actually I didn't get a letter after it they booked it then and there during the booking in appt and gave me the date, it was a growth scan I got a letter the week after for. I do think they manage to fit you in short notice (this was St Marys Manchester)

My booking in was 11 weeks for same reasons as you, couldn’t get an appointment before. Letter arrived 3 day later. First scan was at 12 + 2. Sure it will be fine.

You can always book a private scan at a private hospital too (not a 3D type place, but an actual private hospital, where they can measure the nuchal fold if that's something you would want to know about).

I did this when I felt my official 12 week scan was cutting it fine at something like 13+4, from memory. (it was a long time ago!)

Just an update in case it's helpful to anyone else: I got my letter on Wednesday and scan is on Monday, 12+6, so there really was no need to worry Smile
