Hi! Not 100% on the Ford C-Max but I have done lots of research on slimline car seats. I’m due DC3 in April and will require the same set up as you.
After much research I found that most cars wont accommodate 3 seats across the back. Going by measurments car seats need to be under 43cm in the base to fit across the back. Very few high backs are this narrow. This was my purchase:
direct.asda.com/george/baby/car-seats/harmony-group-23-dreamtime-deluxe-comfort-booster-silver-tech/050399546,default,pd.html?cgid=D5M15G1C2
I got mine from Asda during their baby event and they were reduced to £18 (bonus)
I have found that baby car seats that use bases are quite narrow (I already have a silver cross) but research suggests Joie ones are the narrowest. For the most convenient access I would get a seatbelted base and have that in the middle seat and the two high backs on either side.
Hope this was useful to you. Congratulations on your pregnancy x

There’s this company which makes banks of car seats for children, which fit into small cars (and also bigger ones for large cars). They seem pretty versatile in terms of taking children from birth to 12. They are a bit expensive, but if the alternative is buying a different car, they might be worth it.

(I suspect that individual car seats will suit your needs better, but I love their design!)

You are best going to a good retailer and trying different combinations of car seats out (if you can get to a branch of the in car safety centre they are really good).

If you join the face book group ‘car seat advice uk’ you can find out recommended retailers in your area. They is also good information explaining why seats such as the one linked above aren’t recommended, they are only tested to the legal minimum and don’t usually perform well in a crash.

The Britax Adventure is a good narrow high back booster. You may get a better fit putting the newborn seat in the middle but some infant carriers won’t have a good fit on the middle seat and some won’t be approved for this position, etc. You are definitely best with a specialist retailer (avoid Mothercare and Halfords as they are known for often giving poor advice).

Go to a shop that will let you put them in a row - Halfords are usually helpful if it's not a busy time

Check out the car seat fit lists for the baby seat you are thinking of. For example, a Joie seat (cant remember which, maybe every stage) is not designed to go into the middle seat of the back row in many cars at all. if the c max has 3 isofix points you might have better luck. I am not sure I would put an infant seat in the middle but thats maybe just me.

You’ll definitely get three in an s max. We have three hbb in our middle row with loads of space for doing up seatbelts

OhFlipMama · 11/01/2019 08:24

Unless you're keen on Ford particularly, look at Picasso. Brilliant spacious family car.

littledinaco · 11/01/2019 08:29

The smax has 3 full seats so you will get 3 across. Cmax is doable but you may have to compromise on which seats you get. It is also difficult to access the seat belts. You will also need to consider when the infant carrier is outgrown.

If you haven’t got the car yet, I would definitely go for smax over the cmax. Or any with 3 full seats-usually 7 seaters though.

You can actually get 3 car seats in quite a lot of cars as long as you aren't trying to face them the same way. Car seats are normally wider at the back than the front - so it you alternate forwards and rear facing seats it's much easier to get them in.

This page is rear facing focused but it does show a few options for 3 in a row in a C max. erfmission.com/car-seats-3-across-in-the-backseat/ . It doesn't have 2 forwards 1 backwards but it at least shows it is possible, maybe find a good independent car seat retailer and go have a play?

Boohooyouho · 11/01/2019 08:51

We easily got three seats in our old Renault scenic while the littlest was still rear facing, but once she got bigger it was too much of a squeeze to get three forward facing in

hi I now think I am going to go for Picasso looks a great car!
