Are my hcg levels dropping?

Hi all at 5.5 weeks i took a few first response tests and the control line was faint but test lines dark which i have been told indicates high hcg levels.
Just taken another of the same test at 8 weeks and my test line and control line are both the same darkess, does this mean my hcg levels are dropping?
I only had symptoms between 5-6 weeks and then nothing since x

I might be wrong but I seem to remember reading when I was pregnant a few years ago that after a while once you go past a certain point your hcg levels are so high pregnancy tests arent as reliable.

The darkness of the line on the test depends on many things besides HcG level, including the amount of dye in the test and how concentrated your urine is. The tests are only supposed to give a yes/no answer, not information regarding pregnancy viability. You can’t read anything into these lines, so please don’t panic as a result of them. Only a blood test can determine hcg levels.

Could it be the hook effect? I think you can test this by diluting your urine and if it results in a darker line then you know it’s that.

Erin Ive just taken another after drinking and its gone back to the test line being darker than control line, is that what you mean?

Yes either that or add some water directly to your urine and try that. If you google it there’s a good explanation for why it happens

Noooo it’ll only be able to go to a certain darkness. Sounds good to me!!

I have exactly the same worry about the symptoms only being there between week 5 and 6! Am 6 weeks 3 days today and terrified of miscarriage because I just don't feel pregnant at all. Only had sore boobs and was sick once at 4 weeks but the boobs are now fine.

I know I already commented up thread but I am 6+4 today and my symptoms have really calmed down.

Hi all, my first post on mumsnet yay! I am 6+0 by my dates but had an early scan today because I’ve had some brown and pink spotting on and off the past week. Scan showed sac and yolk but they feel it’s too early to say if viable or not and think I’m more like 5 weeks (totally possible as I have a long cycle) can’t stop worrying though as I had a mmc in September. Symptoms are also very different to my last pregnancy where I was glowing to 10 weeks and sore boobs, this time I’m spotty and definitely don’t feel pregnant :(
