hi for the past week my blood pressure has gone up
today it was 130/90
dos anyone have any experience of this

when do they start thinking of admitting you to hospital ?
or giving you medication to lower bp ?
or inducing you ?
will i still be able to have a water birth?

im having it checked again 1st thing tomorrow last week it was 130/86

i was induced with all 5 of mine, the first developed into PE,as i mentioned before, and i was induced at 38 weeks with 2,3+4,and at 39 with no 5,although my bp wasnt too bad in my last pregnancy(i asked to be induced as it was what i was used to).

i advise you to drink plenty of water,as a mw mentioned a link between dehydration and PE/PIH.i certainly drank alot more fluids in my last pregnancy, and didnt have as many problems as the first 4.i know it could just be a coincidence but you never know.

The consultant saw me once and he was happy for me to continue with normal MW care.
Good advice to drink alot of water.

Hi kittenbaby

I hope not to scare you, (but wanted to tell you what happened to me)

I was like you and wanted a water/natural birth with my ds, but my bp went up at 37 weeks and kept hovering around the same as yours. the hospital gave me an extra scan and tests to monitor me, sometimes it was high sometimes it wasn't.

Anyway i was told to watch out for headaches and come in if i felt bad, or had headache. On due date i got a headache went in (BP was 140/100)and was induced, transfered from birthing centre to labour ward and had the full medical monitored birth, it wasn't what i wanted but the important thing is ds and i were ok and healthy.

I a m now 33 weeks and bp is going up again only about 120/80 at present but dr. says he will induce me at 37 weeks if it goes any higher. You don't always have protein in urine before it's a problem but they need to test you more now.

Try and sleep lots, i reakon that helps too and put your feet up as much as possible.

Good luck not long now.

Just for information, but Lloyds Pharmacy are selling blood pressure monitors for £20 at the moment - it's some government subsidised initiative to help keep the country healthy as they normally cost £60-£70.

im back home !!!the blood tests got the all clear and they said this is what they use to decide if its Preeclampsia
funnily enough when i got to the hosp labour ward my bp went down to 120/78
which is a bit odd considering all the screaming women in there !!
and the fact that although i was trying hard not to feel stressed, i was a bit

i would of though it would of gone higher
im glad of course it didnt and i didnt have to be induced
gotta see mw again thu for bp check
one of the machines they wired me up2 showed i was actually having contractions !
id just put this down to baby moving alot!

they said if your bp is high or you get induced you wont be able to go in the pool its hospital policy but they did say the pool helps to lower bp but ur not allowed in it if u have high bp
everything has to be a ok to go in pool

so hopefully my bp will stay down and the labour will start anytime now [dr said it could happen anytime and baby is ready] naturally and i can have my water birth xxxxxx

they where very nice to me at the hospital bless em xxx

That's good news, KB. I hope you are able to have a water birth. Good luck and best wishes. xx

Rumpel · 26/06/2007 21:50

Good luck - hope you get your waterbirth.

Uki · 27/06/2007 00:56

Hope you get your water kitten, kitten

Good to hear all ok and clear.

BTY stress doesnot cause high BP, its a myth. I have asked many specialists about this. Bp can be genetic and they have no idea what actually causes pre eclampsia, they suspect it might be to do with the placenta, but have no idea.
