Cooking with wine during pregnanxy

My partner has offered to cook me dinner tonight, and I really fancy his amazing spaghetti Bol. I know most of the alcohol is cooked off but he always cooks it with about a bottle of wine or so in it for just the two of us. This won't affect the pregnancy? I've had a bit of a rough pregnancy so far and I don't want to put bubba at more risk. It's just so good and he never offers to cook so I'm taking advantage of the fact he's offered to cook. Is it worth telling him to cut down the alcohol in it? Or will it all be okay?

How in god's name does he manage to fit an entire bottle of wine into a two-person portion of spaghetti Bolognese?! It's a hell of a lot of liquid!

I mean, normally I'd say don't worry about cooking with wine during pregnancy. But that is... A lot of wine. It would probably be fine as a one off. But I'm still stuck on... That is a lot of wine.

The alcohol is volatile so won't be a high enough concentration to impact you or the baby if it's simmered long enough.
It's mainly for the flavour and would only be a no no if it was saturated in alcohol and not boiled off :) enjoy!

The alcohol boils off. But you could get him to put half wine, half stock in.

costacoffeecup · 07/12/2018 16:30

That's seems like such a waste of a bottle of wine to me!

LemonMousse · 07/12/2018 16:31

Maybe he just says he puts the whole bottle in? Adds a glass and drinks the rest? Wink
Mine would be very runny with that amount of liquid!

Kylieemilyj · 07/12/2018 16:58

@lemonmousse most likely. He's decided now to not add any wine at all as he wouldn't know what to do with the rest of the bottle (he's now saying it isn't that much wine he uses and would be pointless to buy a bottle for just our two meals)

I'd put the wine in (he won't use the whole bottle). It's good with wine!

Kylieemilyj · 07/12/2018 19:32

@AnchorDownDeepBreath he didnt end up using it, and it didnt taste too bad. It would have been better but he wouldnt drink the rest of the wine so it would be a waste I suppose.

Next time, tell him to freeze the rest of the wine in ice cube trays, and he has the wine for the following time then too.

Kylieemilyj · 07/12/2018 19:54

@TokenGinger that is actually a really good idea, even with White or Rose and put it in a glass of wine...He wont make it for me again for a while anyway :(

A full bottle of wine in a bolognese for two people?! Jeez. What a waste.

Mississippilessly · 07/12/2018 21:35

I don't underatand how this isn't like... beefy vaguely tomatoey mulled wine?

JenMumma · 14/12/2018 17:39

Omg sounds delicious, agree with the pp about the volatility so you’ll be fine however that IS LOADS!!!! Loving the ice cube tray idea, that tip needs an Oscar 🙂
