Methotrexate and 5 weeks pregnant.

Its a long story. But in short my consultant thought i was an having an ectopic. Only given one scan. Lots of bloods test (all below 100) The hcg did start dropping a little, but then started rising slowly. Was given methotrexate. So back n forth for bloods. Slowly went down. Then on monday i was called in as my hcg was 590.
2 days later its at 1293. Im roughly around 5 week. My poor baby has been exposed to methotrexate, i can't find any success stories or anyone whos gone through all this. I dont see my consultant for another 11 days, and even so we wont know the effects till later in the pregnancy, if we even get that far!
Please help.

Im already with a consultant with it all. But next appointment isnt till 17th so its the waiting thats killing me 1

Have you had a scan since it started rising which confirms that the pregnancy is in the uterus and not an ectopic? The HGC rising doesn’t necessarily means it’s not still an ectopic - it’s quite common for people to need a second dose of methotrexate if the first one doesn’t work.

I realise that’s not particularly reassuring as it’s still not a good outcome for you.

I would contact your local EPU, they should be able to scan you xx

I don't know very much, but please start taking folic acid, if you weren't already. Methotrexate depletes folic acid in the body, and folate levels in early pregnancy are vital.

Call the EPU, and if they won't see you (I'd hope they will), then the consultant's secretary.

Yes ive already had a scan confirming pregnancy in correct place. Hence why im seeing my consultant again and they need to monitor it closely.
The methotrexate is an error on the drs part. I shouldnt of been given it...

I have prescription folic acid as they wanted me on a higher dosage than the usual over the counter folic acid xx

Ah right, that wasn’t clear from the original post. That’s awful they have incorrectly given the methotrexate, wishing you the best of luck, and hope it works out.

Will be a tough couple weeks waiting for your appointment, but hopefully the fact that the HGC has started to rise and they have you on a strong dose of folic acid means it will be ok. In the meantime you could try to eat a super rich in folic acid diet - there’s good lists online of what foods contain it, and many cereals are fortified with it.
