hiya
i thought everyones waters had to go to start labour but have been told thats not the case, some peole have said the hospital broke them for them, others said it was just a trickle, is there any other signs that they are going to break or does it just happen? still got 2 weeks to go but just panicking for a change!

The moment when my waters broke was probably the most intense sensation during the whole of labour, I felt like I was literally going to explode just before my waters broke.

My dd was born in the her waters, they didnt break. I did have a show the day before or so.

38 weeks. I was asleep and dreamt I was wetting myself, I woke up to find I was having that huge gush people tell you doesn't usually happen. The bed was literally flooded! Got to the loo to check the colour (it's a good idea keep a glass handy) and it was fine, but the head wasn't engaged (1st PG) so I had an induction a couple of hours later.

I had a little bit of a show - just some sticky stuff when I went to bed. Woke up at 2am with contractions but thought they were just Braxton Hicks - husband went into panic mode, packing the car with all of our (should I say my) bags. I still thought my contractions were BH, despite them increasing in regularity. My DH finally convinced me that perhaps I should get dressed and call the hospital to tell them we were coming. I had just put my trousers on and then - ping, my waters went with a little ping sound but they were more of a trickle than a gush as I just had wet knickers! Decided then that perhaps the contractions were real - oh my god, this is is it and soon departed for hospital much to my DH's relief! I too had much more of a show once I got to hospital.

Mine broke with a trickle with ds1 but gushed with ds2. No warning either time.

With ds2 it would go in a great gush then if I was fairly still it would stop. As soon as I moved around it would do another large gush. Felt really icky actually.

hospital broke my waters for me. nearly flooded the room and dh slid on puddle. he said it smelt of cat food incidentally. nice.

Apparently if the baby is in the optimum position (LOA) your waters are less likely to break until you are fully dilated. With DS1 & 2 waters broke at the start of established labour.
