Positive stories from bad early scans?

Went for what should have been my 7 weeks reassurance scan today after having had bleeding, cramping and pain only to see nothing more but a large sac and yolk.

10 days ago I went for a scan and was measuring 5+3. There has been a tiny bit of growth but clearly not enough.

Anyone else had this and had successful pregnancies?

I just recall at the 7 week scan with DS we saw such a perfect tadpole with a heartbeat.

I am beating myself up so bad as I'm on medication which increases chance of miscarriage and slow growth

I sadly haven't had that experience but when I was posting in the miscarriage thread some people had been for a scan with no HB had a repeat & seen one.
Sending you well wishes. When is your next scan?

Hi OP, the first scan picture here, they measured me at 7+1. Exactly four weeks later, the second scan is measuring 11+5 so he's four days ahead of what they originally projected. I had another scan two weeks ago which measured me two days behind the original guess. So in the last 13 days, baby has grown 19 days. Or, they had their measuring out in the first scans.

My obstetrician said generally they take any scan and measurement with a pinch of salt if it's less than 8 weeks because it's so easy to be inaccurate. The difference of a millimetre can push the dating out by days.

Don't panic. There's growth. Keep a positive mind xxx

OP it's a terrible experience and I am so sorry you are going through this.

I have not had the same experience but do have a positive story after a bad scan. At 12 weeks with DS scan showed what were described as significant abnormalities around his spine and stomach. Second scan 5 days later showed completely normal. DS now 5.

Really hope you have a positive outcome. Flowers

Michelle0507 It's in a weeks time but they said if I start bleeding then come straight in. Thank you x

Thank you TokenGinger I do appreciate how much they can vary and fluctuate. I guess it's just hard as I know when I ovulated and so know I should be about 7+2 So surely should see at least a feral pole and usually a heartbeat too.

Don't lose hope!

This happened to me, I thought I was 7 weeks when I went for a scan. Pretty sure I rated accurately and on the scan just like yourself, I only saw a sac and yolk. Went back a week later and there was a little poppy seed and heartbeat. I'm now 14 weeks!

Sometimes we just get ahead of ourselves with dates, sonographer said baby would have implanted at a later date.

Lots of baby dust xx

Thank you kpeanut94 I guess I just feel so disheartened by how I'm not just going off my own LMP but the 1st scan, according to the 1st scan I should have a fetal pole and heartbeat. I shouldn't have still only seen a yolk 10 days later Sad

I went for a 7 week private scan and was told it was an empty sac, no yolk. Braced myself for a mc, waiting 2 weeks and went for a scan at 9 weeks and there was a baby there. Fingers crossed for you x

TwittleBee · 23/11/2018 23:14

Did you have a scan previous to that 7 week one janeoho ? We're you dates moved or were you still estimated at 9 weeks at that scan? Thank you x

No advice but just wanted to say fingers crossed for you Flowers

Early scan are not very accurate at all.
I was also convinced of my dates booked an early scan at what I thought was 9 weeks. Could only see a sac but the scan I had booked didn’t do internals so had to go elsewhere for an internal ultrasound.
Had an internal scan to be told baby was measuring at 6+5, couldn’t see a heartbeat. Went back a week later another internal little fluttering heartbeat and measuring at 8+3. When I then went for 12 weeks scan according to that last scan I should have been 12 exactly and baby measured at 12+6. I am currently 34+2 with a healthy baby who is growing perfectly!

TwittleBee · 24/11/2018 13:23

Thank you both.

I appreciate early scans aren't accurate. It's what is keeping DH positive. I just don't know if I can.

Having only a few days growth between 2 scans, the later which should have shown a heartbeat is hard.

Hopefully that 1st scan was wrong and should have been earlier than dated.
