Hello!

I am 22 years old and expecting my first child! I had my 12 weeks scan on Monday just gone and the NT of my baby was 3.5mm. The midwife told me this was borderline for DS and obviously I started to panic!

I had blood test on the NHS and also with e-harmony and the NHS results came back as high risk with the chance of 1:5 :( I am still waiting for the test results for the e-harmony which feels like a lifetime at the moment.

I would really appreciate some of your stories and advise as I have the worst anxiety at the moment because of course for your first baby or any baby you just want them to be happy and healthy with no worries in your pregnancy!

Hi lovely! I was 23 when I fell pregnant with my first, so similar to you and now 26 and pregnant with me 2nd. Firstly, congratulations!!!

In terms of the measurements, mine came back fine my 2 of my best friends came back 1/5 and 1/4. They obviously both panicked, not so much about what they would do, more so so that they could prepare for the future.

They both opted for the harmony test which you can pay for, it's safe and can give you quick results. Both their results came back MUCH better with the harmony and put their minds ar ease! The results are far more accurate and they do blood tests for other things too, can even tell you the sex if you want to find out.

That said, only certain private clinics do the harmony and it does come in at about £400. None of us had a lot of spare cash but they both said it was well worth it.

Now with my 2nd, they weren't able to get the measurements and tests needed. I'm meeting the midwife tomorrow to discuss further but may opt for harmony this time round just for peace of mind.

Hope this helps xx

i had a 1:20 at the scan, followed by 1:5 risk following a harmony test. In my situation i then had an amnio and it was confirmed that my baby had Down syndrome. However, you should not assume there is a problem yet, as you are young and healthy and you only have one potential indicator of a potential risk. There is still a good chance that your baby is absolutely fine, so try to focus on that (easier said than done I know). you will have the answers soon, so in the meantime you need to focus on managing your stress for the sake of you and the baby. But if you have any questions or just need someone to talk to in the meantime, then please do let me know. Alternatively, ARC are an amazing charity who specialise in these situations and held my hand through the whole experience.

Hiya, I'm sorry you're going through this.
Our NT was 5.1. 1 in 5 chance of downs.
The NIPT came back highly unlikely for downs and baby seems fine. We're going to have the cvs or amnio on Monday as we feel we need to know for sure what's wrong (if anything)

I wish you all the best. 3.5 is only just a concern so try and keep positive xxx

Hi, our NT measurement came back 4.7mm (I'm 28), we were very shocked, I know exactly what you're going through.

Initially we thought we would have the Harmony but the consultant at UCLH said we might be better going straight for CVS as this offers a definitive yes/no answer rather than another probability score and it also screens for other abnormalities (not just downs/edwards).

I found CVS fine, it was a little painful but nothing too bad, the next day I felt like I'd done a lot of situps. No bleeding or anything.

We had to wait over a week, but finally everything came back clear. I've had a lot of additional scans since and everything has been very healthy with the baby.

I'm really glad we went for CVS as it put my mind at ease, it was a very scary time, like you I never imagined I would be at risk.

Sending lots of positive vibes your way, you're just on the cusp and I've heard so many stories about NT measurements being high but then the baby is completely fine

I had my 12 week nhs scan last week, with an NT of 3.5. I had the bloods there and then which were rushed through. My results came back 1:5000 for edwards and Patau. 1:95 for downs. We've decided against cvs. I will have a scan at 16 weeks, then depending, possibly amnio if there's any abnormalities.

I'm quite happy with 1:95, as I am 38. The chance of m/c would be same odds having the cvs hence why I decided against.

I had a very lengthy private scan a few days ago and baby looked perfect, the sonographer (ex-nhs) couldn't see any issues. There was no other issues spotted at my nhs scan either which gives me hope all is well.

Hello everyone!

I’m currently going through the same. Had a Nt of 3.5 and waiting on my bloods. It’s so worrying isn’t it. Hope everything is ok with you all now? X
