Hi,

I’m looking for info on essential oils in beauty products, if anyone knows about this stuff!

I know for example clary sage is not allowed, but what about just sage oil? Is that different? Also some oils like cedarwood are not allowed but how dangerous are they - especially in very small quantities as one ingredient of a face mask?

Thank you in advance! Btw if it helps I’m 12 weeks and it’s my first pregnancy.

Interesting question, and i have no real idea. I had a quick look at the guidance. The NHS website does not have much to day on this:
www.nhs.uk/common-health-questions/pregnancy/are-complementary-therapies-safe-during-pregnancy/

But it seems some trusts offer aromatherapy in later pregnancy, including using clary sage.

According to their site essential oils should not be used in the first trimester, but are safe after that. I'm not sure what the evidence/rationale for that it, but if anyone knows it would be interesting to find out.

The amounts in make up, face masks and creams etc is so tiny you don't need to worry.
