Just a gestational sac?

Hi,

Can anyone help me please?

I thought I was seven weeks, and had some brown spotting. As I’ve had previous losses, they referred me to EPU.

internal scan showed a gestational sac but they couldn’t see anything inside? They said they expect blighted ovum.

Thing is, I could be only just six weeks, because my cycle can be 35 days long and I didn’t test till day 36 because of that. Would that make it more likely to have only seen a sac?

My HCG levels are 26,000. They aren’t planning to retest. I’m in for another scan in a week.

Any advice appreciated greatly.

I had what was a suspected blighted ovum last year.
I got to over 9 weeks and there was still only a gestational sac. I’d had brown spotting too from 5 weeks shortly after my first scan.
They did say that at 5 weeks they expected to only see a sac but still nothing progressed. I had weekly scans.
It’s really hard to say what to expect because some people have had the experience where nothing was seen at 6 weeks and then at 7 weeks everything was there and baby had a heartbeat.
Some people will tell you they saw the yolk sac as early as 5 weeks.
Everyone’s experience is so different.
But with my pregancy now, I had a scan at 6+4 and I saw everything and a heartbeat.
The only thing I will say is that with my blighted ovum, my HCG didn’t rise properly. At 7 weeks it was still only 1800.
Good luck OP. I really hope you get good news next week x x x

Thanks so much for taking the time to share. I’m sorry your last pregnancy didn’t work out but very pleased to hear this one is! Congratulations.

More brown slime when wiping today, but it is very slight and there was nothing yesterday Confused

If your cycles are 35 days and you are counting the weeks from the date of your last period, then your dates are wrong as they assume a 28 day cycle. So, you're 6 weeks not 7.

I had an early scan due to cramping and knew when I'd ovulated, so knew I had to be about 6 weeks. At the scan they just told me I was wrong and was 5 weeks and they couldn't see anything. I worried that baby had stopped growing until an 11 week scan, when I found out I was 12 weeks so my original dates were right. Turns out they had done no measurements at the very early scan.

So, if you're 6 weeks it's early and they might not be able to see much :) I know it's hard, but you have another scan in a week, so you'll know then! Keeping my fingers crossed for you x

If I am completely honest with HCG that high you would expect to see more on a scan, however, there is always a chance that you are just a bit early.

Hope you get a definitive answer soon x

Thanks you two. Yes, that’s what I’m
Thinking regarding dates,
And yes, I thought the hcg was too high not to be seeing anything Sad

Morning sickness getting worse. This is hell.
