c - section versus natural birth at 46

I am 46 and a FTM. I was assuming that I would just have a vaginal birth but at my last consultant appointment it was suggested that I had an elective c section at 39 weeks. This is due purely on my age at the moment although the baby is pretty big - in the 90th percentile. I am interested in knowing other older mums' experiences on both please. I am really unsure as to what to do. Thanks

I've had my second at 41, elcs due to first being emcs.

I loved my elcs despite really being geared up for a vbac. They're likely to want to induce early due to your age (I think) if it's natural - there may be a higher chance of emcs as a result, but I'm not sure. They were fine for my age to allow me to go to 41 weeks and natural birth; pre eclampsia and diabetes seemed to have more of an issue.

There is an elcs group on fb you could join and ask; some of the women in the vbac group are older mothers do you could join and ask them.

It seemed to be hard to really push for a natural birth due to my emcs partly as I could only go to 41 weeks (was 42 with ds) and partly as they couldn't guarantee pool etc.

If I'm honest the most important thing is to get baby out safely; I'm now not sure why I got so hung up on the vbac.

Actually- I think I'd go back and ask if there's anyone who could go through all the ins and outs with you; usually the midwife who does birth reflections is good at discussing this sort of thing. You need to clarify if it's absolutely necessary and what it's based on.
