Really ill after the flu jab?

So I had the flu jab on Thursday, Saturday I started with a mild flu and I feel terrible, aching really badly and have pulled my stomach muscles coughing...now I'm worried that I've harmed the baby (I'm 10 weeks) my sickness has disappeared too the last couple of days which is also worrying me, as I've been really sick with this pregnancy so far.

Looking for some reassurance please ladies that I've done the right thing having this vaccine...argh.

You’ve definitely done the right thing by having it. Getting Flu while pregnant can harm the baby. The modern vaccines we get now are not live vaccines anymore. So they can not give you the Flu. However, I think they weaken your immune system, so I always get a bad cold after.

They are really well protected in there, so being ill and coughing, shouldn’t affect them. My symptoms also disappeared around 10 weeks, so hopefully it is just a coincidence. If you are worried about it, I’d call your midwife for reassurance! Hope this helps a bit and you start feeling better xx

Firstly, there is 0 chance you have harmed your baby!

Re the flu jab, the adult vaccine is not a live vaccine so its a (very annoying) coincidence that you are having fluey symptoms so soon after having the jab. It sucks that you are feeling so ill but you have absolutely done the right thing by having the jab and full blown flu while pregnant would be horrendous!

Thanks so much, I have my 12 week scan next week which will put my mind at rest I'm sure. Can't believe how yucky I feel atm.

The known side effects of the jab do include mild flu-like symptoms but you cannot get actual flu from the (inactive) version in the vaccine.

Severe cough however is not listed as one of the side effects. So I think it is likeliest that you have had a separate cold. (There is one going around (there usually is, tbh); DH has just had a nasty cough and he hasn't had his flu jab yet).
