This isn’t labour, is it?

I’m 39+2 today with my first baby and I’m not sure if labour is starting. My baby is measuring big (consistently over 95th percentile) so it’s not outside the realms of possibility I could be having her before my due date

My waters haven’t broken, and I’ve had no show so I guess it’s very unlikely this is labour. But since last night I’m having loose bowels and painful tightening across the top of my bump, some period type cramps that come and go (but not in any regular pattern), and my lower back is aching which is coming and going too. I’ve got a bit of a headache and just feel really unsettled and restless. Baby is VERY active and seems to be getting a bit lower, though she does still have a foot in my rib cage!

I had a milder version of similar symptoms at 37 weeks but they all stopped and nothing since.
But I just feel if this was the start of labour I’d be more sure of it, especially after nearly 24 hours of on and off pains etc. I feel like it’s just wishful thinking.

It could be early labour I had similar two days before my first baby arrived. Fingers crossed for you xx

GreenBlueYellowRed · 23/10/2018 17:21

Thank you. I hope it is!

Ooh exciting OP!!! I'm no help at all as pregnant with my first but fingers crossed for you

FrazzyAndFrumpled · 23/10/2018 17:30

Sounds like it could be the early stages, OP. Try and keep upright to help move things along, go for a walk or bounce on a ball for a bit. Also rest!!

WeSaluteYou · 23/10/2018 17:31

Most people’s waters don’t go before labour starts. Sounds good to me

Bobbiepin · 23/10/2018 17:34

Could easily be early labour. Good luck

RosiePosies · 23/10/2018 17:35

P.s. You HAVE to keep us updated : )

SoyDora · 23/10/2018 17:36

Sounds like early labour. Could go on for a while though!
My waters didn’t break until the last push before the baby came out. My show was about 2 hours before the birth.

GreenBlueYellowRed · 23/10/2018 18:01

I will keep you updated!!

My DP has just left for his night shift...... Confused
There was no point him staying home, it could be a false alarm or even if it’s not it could be days yet.

I keep getting a strong pinching feeling high up in my vagina, presume this is my cervix either dilating, or the baby head butting it haha!

Some slight increase in discharge, but wouldn’t say it was my show.

Let’s see how the next few hours go....

Could well be labour I didn’t have a show or lose any waters until I was actually in labour, just loose bowels and tightenings🤞

unicornchaser · 23/10/2018 19:11

Warning, TMI!!

I wish I could say yes it is but I've had the toilet issues, back ache, cramping, tightenings and goey/gunky show (clear /white/greenish and pinky sorry TMI!!!) for 10 days now and still nadda.....

Sorry to be a downer, fingers crossed for you it could be and likely is early labour starting but it may last a while HmmSad

Thismummyruns · 23/10/2018 19:13

Sounds like the start of my first labour!

Get on that ball- rotate to dilate!!

BrokenMachine · 23/10/2018 19:18

I got these things about 2am on the day of my daughters birth. She was born 12 hours later :) good luck!

GreenBlueYellowRed · 23/10/2018 19:52

Everything seems to have stopped now. Backache has gone, no more cramps, nothing. Getting some tightening across bump when I walk around, but nothing when I’m sitting on couch or birthing ball.

Will have to see if it starts again, but looks like it was another false alarm Sad

Any update? How are you?

RosiePosies · 24/10/2018 11:26

Hope you're alright @GreenBlueYellowRed!!

FrazzyAndFrumpled · 24/10/2018 11:51

How are things this morning?

GreenBlueYellowRed · 24/10/2018 12:30

Still here and still pregnant!

No more blood, but having some period type cramps on and off. Been sleeping most of the morning really as I didn’t sleep well last night. Plan to go for a walk in a bit and see if that starts things up again!

If you can at all stand to... Have sex!

OhFlipMama · 24/10/2018 13:14

Maybe it was braxton hicks? With my first I was shocked to discover I felt earlier labour in my back - not on my stomach whatsoever. It isn't unusual to get lower back pain that comes and goes with contractions. I did wonder if it was related to period pains always being in my back rather than stomach cramping.

Kt2108 · 03/11/2018 18:21

Woke up today and continued all day with the lost awful stabbing feeling between my legs. Like unbearable when I move. Slight on and off 'period cramping' 38+4 - any advice? Midwife on Thursday said it wouldn't move anymore so guessing all in the right place etc

Kt2108 · 03/11/2018 18:22

MOST awful I meant 🙄
