I wouldn't bother stocking up too much, your baby might not be the right shape for the brand or may struggle with rashes or simply grow a lot quicker than anticipated. I would use the cheaper ones and then if they don't work give the dearer brand a go.
I have always used lidl's as they are cheap and shop most local to me. I feel they are less absorbent than Pampers so probably have to be changed a bit more frequently. I don't really mind that though, they seem to be a more simple nappy and I always thought Pampers to smell more 'chemically'

Gnappies have been amazing for mine

Tesco nappies have been good for us. As pp have said it can be a bit of trial and error to find what suits your baby.

We get Aldi. They are great and very cheap. I don’t have an Aldi near me so I wait until they have a baby and toddler event and you can buy them online and I stock up on loads of them.

Have you considered washable nappies? They're a world away from the old 'terry' nappies with pins and come in lots of fun designs, are comfy for babies to wear (plus they are cheaper and more eco-friendly). It's not half as much as work as I thought it might be - and actually, as they leak less than disposables (certainly where poosplosions were concerned), I cut down on the clothes washing.
There's lots of help and advice out there (my children are a bit older now so I'm a bit out of touch with the latest products). Worth a look perhaps?

I've used Lidl, Pampers and Aldi. Initially only Aldi had the size that fitted DD.

Looked at washable nappies while at a baby show. The company owners were shocked that DD was too small for their newborn size as they presumed all newborns are at least around 7lbs 5oz.

@schooltripwoes I'm not opposed to cloth nappies and do like the thought of them, however I have three children, all in school uniforms, club uniforms etc, we run our own building company and have dhs work clothes to do daily too all on top of normal daily washing of bedding, towels ( we go through 20 a week as is) etc etc.. then newborn clothes... I think something has to give- therefore it's disposable nappies for us here im afraid.

But do think they are a great product, just can't squeeze it into my already time poor life haha

We can only get Pampers here (I'm not in the UK).

I prefer the Baby Dry ones but the Premium Protection are less likely to leak at night.

Mumtobe193 · 23/10/2018 13:04

I've always found the asda little angels ones to be brilliant, just as good as pampers and much cheaper.

Think the baby event is over at asda now. I'd stock up when its back on!

bluesky45 · 23/10/2018 13:05

We use the aldi ones, find them as good or better than the free pampers ones we were given in a bounty pack. Although we having been using pampers nappy pants for a while now as ds does not lie still for a nappy change any more. Just waiting for him to be big enough for aldis version of nappy pants which don't start til size 5 whereas we've had size 4s from pampers.

WinterRose92 · 23/10/2018 13:24

I've always found that the Lidl and Aldi nappies are brilliant, never had any problem. Very cheap too!

SuperGekkoMuscles · 23/10/2018 13:38

Aldi here. I agree don’t buy boxes full. I remember nearly crying when DH came home with a box of 120 Huggies nappies, forgetting that DS leaked through Huggies. 😄
