I have been out of the country quite a lot in the last few years so am unsure how common/popular/laughable some of these names might be. Please let me know if you think I would be committing a hideous faux pas with any of these (or if you just like/dislike them):

Katy
Coral
Lois
Adele
Anya
Mimi
Gabrielle
M arsha

Katy - fine
Coral - not so keen (my DH loves Pearl, I'm working on it)
Lois - nice
Adele - I prefer Adeline
Anya - nice
Mimi - perhaps a longer name shortened to Mimi, it just seems like a wasted opportunity
Gabrielle - I prefer Gabriella
M arsha - not so keen, Marcia, Marta, Maria better

bubble78 · 15/06/2007 16:51

we have chosen lydia ellen

allgonebellyup · 15/06/2007 16:55

katy..nice but slightly boring
Anya.. pretty
Gabrielle...lovely
Mimi...reminds me of tom cruise's first wife

imaginaryfriend · 15/06/2007 16:58

I like Katy (but very commonly used)
Anja
Mimi
Gabrielle

Not keen on Coral or Lois or Adele. Marsha I can't decide on.

imaginaryfriend · 15/06/2007 17:00

You could also spell Anya as Anja the Swedish or German way (I think ...)

Dawn2820 · 15/06/2007 21:42

Katy - prefer kayleigh
Coral - not keen
Lois - not keen
Adele - like
Anya - beautiful
Mimi - no
Gabrielle - like Gabby!
M arsha - Dislike

i also really like Avaya

Hulababy · 15/06/2007 21:44

Katy - nice and traditional; still quite popular
Anya - quite pretty

pollyanna · 15/06/2007 21:44

Anya and Mimi are the best. I think Mimi as a shortened form of Amelia is nice.

Smurfgirl · 15/06/2007 21:48

Spell Katy Katie - its the more common spelling now and makes like easier.

claraq · 16/06/2007 10:20

Thanks again - looks like Anya coming out top and Coral the least popular!
Could use Mimi as a shortening of Miranda which I also quite like.
I don't think I could do Katie even though I really like Katy as it reminds me of too many people I didn't particularly like (esp that Katie on the Apprentice) but the only Katy I have known was lovely.
Any opinions on Piper or is that too WAY OUT? My DH likes it because it reminds him of his favourite champagne.

Don't like Piper at all!

Katy: Quite nice, but very popular

Coral: ok. I know a Coralie, and she is lovely.

Lois: Not sure I would go for this name because I just think Superman, but I do know a sweet little girl called Lois, so don't dislike the name.

Adele: Don't like

Anya: Gorgeous name & I don't know of any Anya's at all. (I work in a primary school too!)

Mimi: Not sure

Gabrielle: ok

Marsha: Ok.

DeviousDaffodil · 16/06/2007 10:34

Piper
Pippa would be nicer.

throgmorton · 16/06/2007 13:46

Mimi is my friends word for 'girls bits'

allgonebellyup · 16/06/2007 20:42

throgmorton, where did you get your name? my friends used to call me that!

southeastastra · 16/06/2007 20:43
