Nipple stimulation to start labour

Has anybody tried this and it worked?

I’m 39 weeks and ready to get this baby out so thought I’d give it a go. I did about 20 mins and had some tightenings and lots of baby movement but I didn’t want to overdo it. I’ll do another session later this evening!

Is it meant to work straight away or does labour normally start later (if it works at all)?

Haven't experienced doing this myself but have heard lots of people say it works! Good luck!

I was under the impression that it was only effective (if at all) in getting things moving along if they were already happening. It's supposed to work by releasing the hormone that causes contractions but if your body isn't ready to go into labour, it won't make it start.

Thanks, it definitely hasn’t done anything so far!

Yes I think it worked for me. I did it for quite a while and had twinges similar to contractions. Went to bed and had baby next morning. Could have been coincidence but I don't think so.

That’s good to know, I’ll keep going! Thank you!

Spent 2+ hours bouncing on a birthing ball while twiddling my nipples and went into labour less than 12 hours later at exactly 39 weeks :)
Could've been a coincidence but who knows! Good luck xx
