Hi all

Just needed some advice, did you wash everything such as mittens hats blankets included or just their vest and babygrows?

You wash things when they need washed. Including blankets. Mittens will need washed more so as they are never out of their mouths.

PotteringAlong · 23/09/2018 10:45

No, absolutely nothing. Life is too short to wash clean clothes.

Mummyh2016 · 23/09/2018 10:46

I presume you mean before baby comes? I washed everything but I don’t know if that makes me PFB Grin

PotteringAlong · 23/09/2018 10:47

I assume you mean before they’re born? I washed everything after! But mittens are a pain. Buy babygros with integrated mittens. Much less faff!

BertieBotts · 23/09/2018 10:48

Only washed things which smelled.

Tefiti2 · 23/09/2018 10:49

I washed everything with non bio before - maybe overkill but you never know how long it’s sat around gathering dust in the factory/shop!

dinosaurkisses · 23/09/2018 11:14

I didn’t wash stuff and wouldn’t with dc2 either.

Didn’t bother with mittens- we had in built ones in most of her baby grows, but even without those she never scratched herself

TheBrilloPad · 23/09/2018 11:17

With DC1 I washed all the brand new things in non-bio before they were ever used.

Now with DC3 I don't wash new things before they are used - just pull off the tags and put them on her. She's totally fine.

YerAuntFanny · 23/09/2018 11:18

I washed everything with both of mine.

I have stupidly sensitive skin though and have had several outbreaks with stiff seams and coatings from new clothes.

Also came across a stained top once which I was reassured about by a friend who worked at the store, "it's probably just rat piss from transit, happens all the time" 😷

LBNM19 · 23/09/2018 11:21

I will wash everything before my baby wears it. Items fall on the floor in shops etc.

NoParticularPattern · 23/09/2018 11:26

I washed them before use but only because I wanted them to smell like home haha. I love the smell of fresh washing so it was more that than I felt they needed to be cleaned!

Topseyt · 23/09/2018 11:27

I never washed brand new things before they had been worn. Not even with my first.

When the next two were born and I had to get the old baby clothes out of the loft I did give them a wash and a blow on the line because they were slightly musty from storage. Still not brand new stuff though.

DramaAlpaca · 23/09/2018 11:30

I didn't wash any new stuff before my baby wore or used it. There's no need to make unnecessary work for yourself, you'll be doing more laundry than you'd have thought possible once your baby arrives

overagain · 23/09/2018 17:57

Do you wash your own clothes between buying them and first wear? If yes (like me) then wash baby stuff. If you don't, then don't.

ambostraw · 23/09/2018 18:53

Sorry I didn't realise you meant washing new clothes.

Pebblespony · 23/09/2018 18:56

I threw out all the mittens after one wear so no washing needed. Bloody things wouldn't stay on. Baby grows with hand covers were about a million times better.

loveskaka · 23/09/2018 19:11

Everything yup x

polkadotpixie · 23/09/2018 19:38

I didn't wash any of DS's clothes before he wore them and he's not had any skin issues as a result

Neither me nor his Dad have sensitive skin and I thought it was unnecessary extra work tbh

The only things I washed were muslins and baby towels for the sake of absorbency

Katinkak8 · 23/09/2018 19:41

I washed everything before DC1 arrived. With DC2 on the way I have no plans to do so! Unless DC1's clothes are a bit musty from being stored in the loft.

BlueBug45 · 23/09/2018 21:08

Depends.

With new stuff if you need a bigger size then you won't be able to take it back to the shop.

With borrowed or old stuff then it depends on how it's been kept.

WooYa · 23/09/2018 21:16

I washed some stuff but only things that had been stored for a while/gifted
