Babygrows

Was just wondering if it’s best just to buy baby grows/sleepsuits to use for the first few months after he is born rather than baby outfits? A few friends have said just to use grows for first few months as the baby grows so much anyway. What does everyone else suggest?

I prefer soft dresses or leggings and jumpers for mine as I find it easier to change their nappy in them.

Bestie also prefers leggings and jumpers for her ds as he's long and thin and babygros are either too short on him or the right length but ridiculously baggy.

Both my babies were early summer born and I hated all the flipping dressed DM bought as hey just ride up and look silly and I comfy, but I love rompers and dungarees. Tend to save baby gros for nighttime

Hi @Pickles31
Congratulations on your pregnancy.

My dd is 3 now and I'm pregnant with number 2. I've been sorting out all my baby clothes and I have to say I've got little outfits with tags on them (that people bought!) and it just seems a terrible waste of money when there's so many other things you're going to need. They're very sweet tho, I think people just enjoy going out and choosing them!!!!

I found NEXT and Marks & Spencer's babygrows the best quality and going through them all these look like new but cheaper ones haven't worn aswell.

Another thing is don't buy too many of the same size, babies grow so quickly and so if people buy everything in 0-3 months don't be afraid to take it to the shop and swop it for something in a bigger size to keep you stocked up a bit longer!!!!!

Babygros all the way! Babies do nothing except sleep and ruin their clothing, so they're the much easier and more practical option. I also think they tend to look so much cuter because only little babies can wear them! One day it'll be proper outfits only so enjoy the babygro months! I'm another one who has several lovely little outfits still with tags but no unused gros. Congratulations on the baby!

Another one against the grain. With DS it was an outfit in the day and baby grow at night. I always found babygro's a pain in the arse, as my son has a long body and short legs, so they never fitted properly and he'd get his legs stuck in the body bit. I will probably use them at night as they don't ride up like tops do, but will just have comfortable separates in the day. At least with separates you can roll the trousers legs up. With this baby I will see what works, but will probably stick to rompers with no feet or leggings/bottoms and tops.

We're all about the babygrows here. Dungarees over the top for special occasions, but otherwise a clean babygrow daily (or more often if he upchucks on it. Current record is 6)

I will probably put him in outfits now and then when he's bigger, but at a month old he's still very curled up and wiggles straight out of any trousers.

I like to dress my dd 6 weeks in an outfit during the day and baby grow at night. I sometimes will leave her in a baby grow and/or vest though if I know we're not going out of the house but I try to gr8 out most days. leggings and tops are easiest, I'm finding I'm trying to find excuses to put her in nice dresses because people have bought them and I don't want them to not be worn at all

DD wears an 'outfit' during the day and sleep suit at night.. when I say outfit, it's usually a cotton top and leggings and very rarely a dress.

If we're travelling in the car for a while then she has a sleep suit on.

Baby grows are great for the early days. Ds had some clothes from when he was a month old, but mostly wore babygrows.
The first time he wore an outfit was for my stepdads 50th birthday party, at just over a month old.

Theweasleytwins · 10/09/2018 14:24

Dont think mine wore outfits for several months- and even then only a special occasion. No point really- poo stains

yikesanotherbooboo · 10/09/2018 14:48

I only bought a couple of 3 packs of white babygros but family and friends bought other things , you might want to hold off outfits until you see what people buy as presents. My little DD was given all sorts of ( awful) pink dresses with matching pants etc . Boy children don't get the true horrors in my experience although there can be a tendency to walk to wall navy and in my poor dn's case denim and pretend trainers!
