Antibiotics during pregnancy

Been diagnosed with mastitis, 22 weeks pregnant. Been told to take a course of penicillin based antibiotics which I felt fine about at the Drs as she specifically said ‘these are completely safe during pregnancy’, but then the pharmacist made me feel nervous by saying they avoid prescribing penicillin to pregnant women and he wouldn’t give me them for ages, but ultimately agreed that there were no known complications before passing them over the counter. Basically I just feel a bit worried and need to reassure myself before I start the course, so has anyone else had to take antibiotics while in the second trimester? I also had my whooping cough vaccine today and forgot to mention that to the dr - should I wait a few days or will it make no difference? Can always call the GP tomorrow to confirm either way...

Personally I would take the antibiotics but if you’re unsure you could always call the GP or your midwife tomorrow for reassurance.

An untreated infection is probably more risky than a course of antibiotics.

I've had two UTIs, thrush and an ear infection. My gp and midwife both said it's better to get treated than have the infection. Baby is doing absolutely fine x

Also for the UTIs I took a penicillin based antibiotic x

Thanks both, just needed the confidence boost of others having done the same. I’ve taken the first pill this morning, and I’m gonna call my GP to double check that it’s ok to start the dose following the vaccine.
